Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm new to this group though I think I recognise a few names from elsewhere. My main area of interest is in researching ancient cosmetics and I'm currently exploring some modernised versions that use currently permitted ingredients. I'm trying to produce some eyepaints inspired by surviving Mesopotamian examples where the main colouring matter in the original was basic copper carbonate, generally mixed with ceruse and apatite to give very pastel blues and greens. I can substitute Titanium white and Talc for the ceruse and apatite, but I'm having more trouble tracking down an appropriate green/blue pigment that is safe to use in eyemakeup. Several suppliers stock Chrimium oxide or Hydrated Chromium Oxide, but my readings online are giving me very mixed messages about whether these are peritted in eyemakup (they seem fine for soap, and get used in contact lenses, but several sites say not where contact round the eyes is likely). Can anyone enlighten me further or suggest an alternative? I'm in the UK if that makes a difference. Many thanks Sally
