Hi Terry,

Tim does suffer from really bad allergies and asthma. When he was younger, he

had severe asthma (hospital visits at least 3 X's a week) I began giving him a

teaspoon of local honey every day and within 2 months his asthma stopped! It was

like an innoculation for the local pollen that he was allergic to. Tim currently

takes allergy pills every day and I am looking to find local honey so he can

begin taking that again since it helped so much when he was younger.

Honey can not be taken by children under 2 years old.

I have never come across anything to suggest that allergies are a symptom of

MDS, but....respitory problems can be a symptom and low immune systems are also

a symptom. You may want to do a search on allergies and Down syndrome and see

what you come up with about the shots.

Let us know if you come up with anything.

My son has been having a very difficult time since last fall with allergies. He

We have not done all of the scratch tests and since I am thinking the question

of having allergy shots may be forthcoming I am wondering if anyone has doen

this. Since our kids have different blood/tissue configurations than typical

recipients of shots I am wondering about the reaction to them. Does anyone have

any experience with this? Terry, mom to Craig 17mds

My son has been off and on again with allergy meds. We did zyrtec for

awhile. Now we're doing claritin. Sometimes his allergies are " off

the hook " and other times they never bother him. Don't know if that

helps..

My son has had lots of weird allergies to medications, animals, seasonal, you

name it - however, his dad also has REALLY bad allergies, so I always attributed

it to genetics.

Dear all

Talking about allergies. I would like to say that Dareen is also suffering

from allergies not asthma but, skin rashes. I have taken her to the doctor who

said that this is happening because of very dry skin. I don't know if any of you

have seen this sort of problem in your child.

Recently, Dareen has on her right leg a white pigmenation which doesn't really

itch but, it has occured after a skin rash that went away. The dr. has given a

cream, now an ointment and medicine but, it doesn't seem to help anyway. She is

due for another visit next Saturday. Do you have any idea of what maybe the

cause? I am really worried as the dr. keeps saying please take it seriously and

it must go away!!

Hannah has some really strange allergies as well, I also attributed them to I

have them as well as my husband and family members so they are just inherited..

then after her leukemia treatmetns I noticed she was more sensative to seasonal

allegies and now the molds and others are off the chart for her and we do

clairitn daily but she still suffers from chronic sinusitis and or sinus

infections. all stems from the allergies and she sees an ENT every 3-6 months

depending on how many infections she has had or how she is doing. they are

holding off on taking the tonsils and adnoids out. adnoids are a good thing when

not inflamed fighting off infections! Holly

Hi Tasneem,

Are you able to get your hands on a cream called Aquaphor? This works

really well. Also, Emu Oil does wonders for dry skin.

Oh, one more thought - dry skin can also be related to hypothyroidism.

Does your child have this issue going or not?

Thanks,

Tasneem,

Has Dareen always had problems with her skin, or is this a new thing?

Well, the dry skin was always there but, we took it as the cause of weather

because we also feel the dry skin when she does but, Dareen's is a bit more dry

then ours. But, the white pigmentation is there same condition for the last 1

year or so.

Thanks for your suggestions Kim. I guess, it's not thyroid problem as we have

done several tests and she is okay.

As Angel said, dry skin can be a symptom in Down syndrome and all you can do in

that case is moisterize.

I was wondering about the pigmentation, because I was wondering if she had

exzema. But, usually someone with that condition is born with it. It doesn't

just appear later.

Have you done a search online concerning it? You may find something on the

web.

The dr. initially said exzema and yesterday we went for the next visit. He said

this is mainly because of dry skin that she is having all these allergies. It's

healing now and better then before. Thank you all for your suggestions.
