Guest guest
We recently received a referral on a man who is 79 years old, retired from Civil Service with Medicare Part B only and BC/BS Federal Employee Program. If the BC/BS Policy says they "coordinate with Medicare" am I to assume that they will pick up with Part A would pick up, or do I need to advise the man to get Part A?? Also, why would he not have Part A.[Aguiar, (Surgery)] Most likely, he didn't pay into it (remember, Part A is contigent on having worked under, & paid enough quarters into Social Security). For someone that age, depending on when it was he was working, Fed'l Employees didn't pay into Social Security (you'll also see it sometimes w/city or state employees, & of course, the railroad retirees). They worked under a different retirement system, so no Medicare Part A. I don't remember when it was that Fed'l employees started paying in, but they do now so eventually you won't see these kinds of situations anymore J. Guest guest
Does that mean Medicare will not pay for the transplant, since he's not entitled to Part A? Thanks for the help, nancyLAguiar@... wrote: We recently received a referral on a man who is 79 years old, retired from Civil Service with Medicare Part B only and BC/BS Federal Employee Program. Guest guest
Just by his age, I would guess that he did nto pay Social Security withholding. Most of those folks, my dad was one of them, did not qualify for Medicare at all as they did not pay Social Security withholding. They only paid civil service retirement.
