Guest guest
Dear All, Subjectively I feel the swollen ankles are edema from fluid and lymph. When I get a flare in the usual leg the ankle will only swell if the lower lump comes out. If the higher one does, the ankle is unaffected. Perhaps the " stickly stuff " is lymph? Does the body produce lymph to counter inflammation? Since I only get the one leg affected, I feel prior tissue injury is making me more suseptible to EN in that area. , I hope you don't get a full blown flare-up! Could stress be a factor for you? Seems I am under stress whever I am standing a lot. A thought just occurred to me..my chiropractor years ago told me I had one leg a bit shorter than the other. The fect that I have no back pain led him to say I was " perfectly accomdated " --and I don't limp. He could tell by one hip being higher than the other when I stood flat footed. I wonder if standing/walking puts stress on my body to maintain the " accomadation " ? By the way, , is there a reason you can't get SSKI? If I'm not too nosey ;-) Roseanne, I didn't realize you are a veteran of EN like me! Do you see any relationship between your fibro and EN--like are you on any meds for fibro that may be supressing your EN? The fact that you rarely get it now makes me hopeful for the rest of us to " lengthen our remissions " as a goal of the group. If you are taking any vitamins or minerals or whatever that might be lengthening the remissions and making the flare-up less severe, that would be of vital interest to the group ( and ME ;-) ) Just an aside here, but I read that nicotine can suppress the autoimmune response. I'm not a smoker--never have been, but I wonder if any members are. If we have smokers in the group, I'd welcome their observations. Wouldn't it be a hoot if a low level nicotine patch would help us? I am NOT recommending this and have never tried it, but I would love to have a researcher do the trial. Wishing Everyone a happy week! Guest guest
Hi , I have read that nicotine is an antiinflammatory, the same kind of action that an NSAID(Motrin, etc.) has. Be very careful with the dosage you use, especially someone who has never smoked. You can get very sick from taking too high a dosage. SSKI is a real oldtimer. You need potassium iodide crystals and water to make it up, equal quantities of each. The pharmacy may not be able to get the crystals, or not be familiar with it. There are pharmacies that specialize in compounding. Regards, > Dear All, > Subjectively I feel the swollen ankles are edema from fluid and > lymph. Guest guest
Hi everyone, Woke up this morning to find another lump at the top of the same leg. They are only small but it's amazing how much they hurt, especially when I bump them! I can't get any p idode solution made up for me. I have a prescription from my specialist but the only chemist that used to be able to do it for me say they can now longer get it in! They have been trying for months to get it as I wanted to have it at home just in case I had a flare up but no luck! I have tried other chemists and they all say they have no need for it anymore! If anyone has any suggestions on how I should go about getting some more they will be very welcome! Steph
