Guest guest
Alternative Therapies for Sleep Apnea Decreased serotonin levels in the body can also lead to sleep apnea as nerves that control breathing needs adequate serotonin supply. Serotonin receptors also control the release of cortisol, a hormone that helps in controlling the breathing muscles. So disturbed breathing in sleep apnea is found to be as a result of malfunction of the serotonin system. As a result, use of serotonin precursors (5-HTP) may benefit some people suffering from sleep apnea. http://tinyurl.com/5qu7pb Alana
Guest guest
One of the main causes of sleep apnea is serotonin deficiency. Studies using AA tryptophan and 5HTP have shown them to be helpful. Why? First, serotonin directly affects the lungs (my assumption is that is causing more of a parasympathetic response). Second, loss of O2 is required for serotonin production, so if physical obstructions block O2 flow, serotonin production is diminished. Third, if a pre-existing low-serotonin condition caused characteristic afternoon and evening carb craving, increased weight could easily result, contributing to obstructed breathing. http://tinyurl.com/3kh4m6 Alana
Guest guest
That's interesting. My doc has just put me on Lexapro because my seratonin levels are fluctuating so much. One week they are high & the next they are low. He said it will take a full month on the med for it to really start working. Interesting to see how balancing those levels will affect me. I'll let you know in a month or so.
