Hi Sara,

What is you Coconut oil source? What is your favorite, or the best you know of? And where do you get it? I've been getting from Omega Nutrition because it is so much cheaper than the other choices. But I'd really like to hear about some of the other choices and be convinced to take the plunge.

Thanks for the recipe.

Delish "Better Butter" Recipe!

Hey all,

Forgive the cross posting. My wonderful friend and relative neighbor, Ferber, (who lurks on the Discussing Nourishing Traditions list) gave me some "Better Butter" she had made. It is wonderful! It is perfect for those of us despairing of ways to incorporate healthy coconut oil in our diets on a regular basis.

Please (mentally) promise me if you can only do one thing today, make this simple but very rewarding recipe! ;-) And let me know what you think of it!

's Better Butter Recipe

1/2 cup raw butter

1/2 cup coconut oil

1/2 cup flax oil

1/4 tsp

Maple syrup to taste (I don't know how much put in? Maybe she will "decloak" on DNT and disclose how much she used? I am guessing 1/4 cup? 1/8 cup?)

Let the butter and oil soften and mix together all the ingredients and put in a glass jar(s) for storage. (Does this need to be kept in the refrigerator, ? I am guessing with the maple syrup content, it does.)

She got the original recipe from Jordon ’s book but added the twist of maple syrup. DH (darn husband) and little girl absolutely love the better butter! It's terrific on graham crackers, it will go perfectly with waffles (which the dear one, , also supplied a few to me!) or on soaked oatmeal in the morning. It's very versatile, where a sweet touch is needed, it is very appropriate!

Mmm, it's so good, it's addictive! I don't think you'll think I'm wrong! ;-)

Hi there,

You had to ask, eh, Tonio? ;-) One dear gal (Yoo hoo, Joyce K. are you still here on the list?) recommended www.coconutoil-online.com - their oil is yummy and I was sold on the jars they send in the "starter kit" see here: http://www.coconutoil-online.com/PRODUCTS.html. The next time around, I tried WFN, they're based in Minnesota. I think the oil is very good, but just not as good as the first source. I probably did that on purpose, ordering a slightly cheaper version as I use a lot of it for baking (less now though!). Personally I feel as long as one gets top quality coconut oil, the differences are not really significant.

For more info: you can check out: http://www.coconut-info.com/ and

http://www.coconutoil-online.com/ If you check out both sites thoroughly, you will feel like you have coconuts coming out your ears! ;-)

I am pretty sure you could contact Tropical Traditions (a 3rd source that I personally haven't tried, but for the "Better Butter" mixture given me) to set up a wholesale account. I would say these three sources I mentioned are the top choices. I've heard mixed reviews on Garden of Life coconut oil (some people complain of water in such). I imagine there are others but hey, we can just get a gallon of coconut oil at once from one of these three companies and we're ahead of the game that way ! Good luck!

Sara
