Guest guest
, I find your thinking fascinating here. I love the idea of action without motive. That instinctively feels right to me. says that the only thing we do is stand, sit, and lie down. Yet, it often appears that my thinking precedes my actions. When I think that I want to call my mother, then I call her. Doesnt my motive to speak to my mother result in the action of calling her on the phone? Is there anything I have ever done without a motive? Sometimes I notice that I am acting spontaneously, without premeditation, but not always..... What do you think? Guest guest
That sounds reasonable, but in the previous letter you said that Motives don't make anything happen. Is that true? When I have a plan, and I follow through on it, am I deluded to think it had something to do with my motive? Guest guest
Hi , I found your response to interesting. There is a great desire on the part of my Ego to take ownership of my actions; however, this does not always appear to make it so. You said: " When I think that I want to call my mother " . Here you are taking ownership or responsibility for the thought " I want to call my mother " . If you place this up against inquiry, you may find that you can't really know that that was your thought. For me, I find that sometimes the thought appears and I either believe it or I question it. If I believe it, then I will feel as though I should act upon it and then I will end up calling Mother. If I question it, it may still appear in the end that I have called Mother, but now I could see that I was not the doer. An action appeared to have occured, i.e: " Calling Mother " , but was I really the doer or the observer? Who knows? Guest guest
Thanks Steve, That was a wonderful answer. I suppose it is the whole illusions of being an " ego " , that creates the belief in doing, instead of being. It all comes down to who do I think I really am? The Self or the ego. It's useful to know the difference sincerely > > > > > > > What is saying, is that there is action without motives. > > > Action without thought. > > > > > > Sometimes we forget that.
