Guest guest
Gusty, I have had success with decreasing by 5 mg a month while doing all the Naturopathic stuff.Dick ThomBambu clinicPortland, ORI have a 17 yo. female pt who has been on Prozac since age 13. She has tried discontinuing it herself a few times and has had overwhelming feelings of sadness. She no longer sees the pediatrician who originally prescribed it, and her current pediatrician just gave her a refill for 3 months but is not willing to help her wean off of it. She has come to me for assistance in getting off of it. We started the BTGs already and are working on all of the physical and emotional components, but I am looking for any advice specifically about how to taper her doses. I believe she is currently on 20 mg/day.
Guest guest
Hi Augusta- I'm currently in the middle of doing this with a patient. We started with BTGs and Undas/single remedies for his gut and CNS (he's also got psoriasis). I have referred to the "road back" website for tapering advice. http://www.theroadback.org/aaataper.aspx He's done well cutting the dose in half every month until we hit 12.5 mg then he started to have symptoms of anxiety and depression again. According to a presentation I recently attended at The Integrative Medicine Symposium in NYC, it can take up to 6 months for "synaptic remodeling" to take place so that serotonin re-uptake will occur as it should once again. We're also using Mg, Tyrosine, Serotonin-Dopamine Liquessence and 5HTP to support endogenous serotonin production which gets significantly altered from years of SSRIs. Calm-Gen and rescue remedy for acute symptom management.Hope this helps- N.D.N.field, RI401*597*0477 To: Sent: Mon, April 26, 2010 2:01:34 PMSubject: Tapering off Prozac I have a 17 yo. female pt who has been on Prozac since age 13.
