Guest guest
Hepatitis C is very rarely spread through sexual contact. Of course that's no excuse for not practicing safe sex unless one is in an exclusive long-term relationship. Those who are in long-term exclusive relationships don't need to change their sexual practices when one turns up with hepatitis C. I am sure the reliability of the hepatitis C antibody test is in the high 90s. Hepatitis C is spread from blood to blood. Our blood banks certainly need a test with a higher reliability than 50%. Ok this may seem like a very stupid question, but why? Larry and I have been together for over 2 years and all sexual activity was put " on hold " when he found out about his HepC. Now keep in mind he has been in Europe for 6 months out of the 7 months since diagnosed. He is so scared of giving me HepC even WITH a condom. If we are monogomous (sp?), then what is it that makes sex safe without a condom for us??? Sorry but I am trying to learn as much as I can about what is what. See...told you it was a stupid question but as mom said, if you don't ask you'll never know. I was a health care worker, I don't know if I got it from drawing blood, I don't ever remember getting a needle stick. My husband and I have never used condoms. So, there you go... who knows. Maybe if we had, only one of us would be sick, maybe not. Heres a site to check out with that info: " For heterosexual, discordant monogamous couples, the risk of transmission is estimated to be 0 to 0.6 percent annually, with the risk to females being threefold greater than to male partners. Because of the low risk of HCV transmission, couples need not use barrier protection (condoms); however, couples should be advised that the use of condoms may decrease the risk of HCV transmission. Based on studies in persons at risk for sexually transmitted diseases, HCV transmission is approximately 1 percent annually. Guest guest
If there is blood involved in sexual intercourse, as is rough, anal sex, or any presence of blood, then there is a transmission risk. If no blood is involved, then it can't be spread to others. HCV is a blood bourne pathogen, it needs blood to blood contact in order to be spread. Hope this helps. http://www.tampabayhep.com > > Those who are in long-term exclusive relationships don't > > need to change their sexual practices when one turns up > > with hepatitis C. > > Ok this may seem like a very stupid question, but why?
