According to a newly published report by the Centers for Disease

Control (CDC) (MMWR July 11, 2008; 57:744-7),

despite public smoking bans, second-hand smoke exposure remains an

important public health problem.

Nearly half of nonsmoking Americans (46.4%) had detectable levels of

cotinine, a biochemical marker of second-hand smoke exposure.
