Enlarged Thyroid/Swollen Glands? Hi Everyone,I went to see my endocrinologist and she felt a "lump" on the right side of my thryoid. I'm going to get an ultrasound done on Friday.I'm wondering if this lump in my thyroid or hashimoto's in general has anything to do with swollen glands. I constantly have swollen glands - especially under my neck. Does anyone else get this a lot?Hope you're all doing well. Thanks,Audrey
Guest guest
My thyroid is always swollen but the endo said it wasn't anything to worry about as it wasn't " that big yet. " As for it being a symptom of fibromyalgia, I don't remember ever reading anything about swollen glands being used as a diagnosis for FMS...maybe it's the chronic fatigue syndrom. Have had FM for most of my life and believe me, I'd rather all of this be due to the thyroid as there's still no cure, or even a test to confirm a diagnosis of FM yet but they're finally working on it and a new med to treat FM. A short update on me after taking the synthroid for two weeks I'm getting to the point where because I'm not feeling any different, I'm forgetting to take them in the mornings. Ya know maybe it's just me but I swear I could tell a big difference when I was switched from synthroid to levoxyl with the old endo. I've missed taking them for the last two days but like I said, I haven't started feeling any different or noticed any of my symptoms decreasing. I'm about ready to give up on it all again like I did about 20 years ago when I was taking synthroid, never felt any different so I just stopped taking them and my doctor never questioned me about them so I didn't mention it anymore. I've kinda decided that if after the first round of this synthroid and my TSH hasn't changed after I get my first blood draw thru the new endo, and if he doesn't up the dosage of this synthroid or put me on a different one, I'll probably just give up on it all for awhile because this guy is supposed to be the best in the area and if I can't get him to try me on one of the other meds like Armour or Cytomel, I probably don't have a snowball's chance in you know where to get any results around here. Right now I've been concentrating and working really hard at just staying well because I've booked a flight out to AZ to see my nieces and god son the end of the month and I only have enough personal time off to use for this month to take my flight. If I get sick or have a fibro flare, I'd be screwed because they make us use any personal time off if you call in sick. I told my supervisor that there'd be only one reason why I wouldn't be there between now and my vacation, and that's if I'm dead LOL. Speaking of work, I'm fighting a battle with them over my FMLA rights. I was doing some more reading on it and I was really screwed bad when I came back from FMLA last October and they put me in a different position and took away my hours of working from 7-4 and put me back to 8-5. So I took the proper channel and asked my super first who then took it to the manager and I was told my request to go back to 7-4 was denied so I went over their heads and took it to human resources. I told her all I want is my 7-4 hours back and I will file a complaint with the DOL if they try and deny this to me again. I was so mad when I read the FMLA law which states an employee must be given a " virtually identical " position upon return to work including benefits, perquisites, etc...... and they sure didn't do that for me and I'm making somebody be held accountable for their actions on this which will end up being my dept. manager. Anyways, I've rambled on enough and need to finish getting ready for work. Y'all take care. Debbie > Isn't swollen glands a symptom of chronic fatigue or fibromylasia? Guest guest
Debbie- Hang in there. My endo didn't even add the Cytomel until 8 weeks of 75mcg Levoxyl. What is your current dosage? If it's low, it may even need to be upped a bit before adding the Cytomel. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
Thanks Miaja...right now I'm only taking .5 mcgs of synthroid and it's not helping so that's why I get so depressed over all of this. Like I've said before...just give me a pill and let me be over it all so I don't have to think about it anymore! Guest guest
Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances. - Jefferson -----Original Message-----From: Debbie Sent: Thursday, May 08, 2003 7:14 AMTo: Thyroiditis Subject: Re: Enlarged Thyroid/Swollen Glands? Everything, as long as your living, is on-going in way or another. The key is not letting it run your life but running your life and acknowledging it. Guest guest
Debbie- I hope you're joking because you sound REALLY depressed. Talk to your doctor about your depression and about getting a higher dosage. .5mcgs seems like a VERY TINY amount. My dr started me on 50mcg, but of course it may be different because it's a different med. Mine is Levoxyl, so I'm not familiar with Synthroid. Don't worry, you WILL feel better soon.
