Glad you're okay and I hope the power stays on for you.

Land Hurricane.

That's what they are calling it. A line of severe thunderstorms roared through Virginia and other parts of the region. In Virginia alone nearly 1 million people were without power and a number died.

The power went out here Friday night during the storm. It was really bad. The winds were so powerful the pine trees were bent near to breaking and I'm surprised they didn't and that more trees didn't go down. A branch from a neighbor's tree killed the power for us though everyone else in the immediate area kept their power.

We'd been having record heat and Saturday was to be another one. We would not have been able to stay in the house without AC so we went to a motel. We took a room at a motel we had stayed in years ago. It was OK then. It was a toilet now. If it had just been me, I would have gone back home picking up a battery powered fan on the way and toughed it out in the basement until the power came back on.

Anyway, they got the power restored at home shortly before another big storm came up. Because of that storm we stayed at the motel. It was rather noisy there because a couple of different groups of people were partying across the courtyard even during the storm. In the morning we woke up with bad allergy problems. We were both awake around 5 AM so we just packed up and checked out a little before 6. I was glad to be leaving one of the few places I had ever stayed where I felt the need for a long, hot shower upon leaving.

I got back home and it was hot in the house, no real surprise since only two rooms have air conditioning. Going down the hall I heard voices. I put down my bags and was about to draw my knife when I heard music. Carefully moving ahead I found the noise was coming from my room. To my surprise, the TV had come back on when the power was restored and at a higher volume than I listen to it at. The air conditioners had also come back on which was also a help.

We had actually left the motel on the edge of the thunderstorm and later another came through. This is getting rather tiresome. I wouldn't mind if it were for the power going out so often.

Thanks. We're OK now though that room seems to have made us sick, her a little worse than me. It was all the dust and mustiness.

My concern now is that all of this damage may have affected supplies for the rest of the year. All we need is a regular hurricane, or some more storms like this one, to hit the area and it will be bad.

Areas to the north and west of us are still in pretty bad shape. There are also some areas around here where the power is out. We were lucky though since we are usually on the tail end of any repairs. I suppose it was just that one simple bit of damage that let us get the repair done so quickly.

Thanks again,

;please stay safe, am praying for you and your mother.rl
