Guest guest
For what it's worth the plates do slide against, under, and over each other all the time... and produce nothing more then barely detectable mummers on sonobuoys and geophones. The problem is they don't always slide smoothly and when they get stuck stress builds up until the obstruction breaks loose suddenly and you get an earthquake. At this time there is a tsunami warning but no word of one having been generated.
