First you will need to ask Jimmie Holman how he calculated the resistor for

the base current to drive the transistor. If not then you can step up to

the next level and use a MOSFET it's faster and has a lower R-on than a

transistor. With new studies this design that you are using has been

replaced by new information.

I have the jimmie holman setup and i just recieved

barry allreds double bubble e gas tube . Mine is

putting out a sky blue glow with violet on ends. Its a

beautiful bulb it lools good even when its off.

While fooling around with lower freqs ie 15 to 75 hz

while holding bulb I got dual purple snakes spinning

around the tube, at higher freqs also , not so easy to

replicate . I think it has some thing to do with

holding the bulb and touching ground wire , where i

get a " plasma ball " effect. Now for freaky part, I was

stepping on the neg wire connection to the tube where

it was alligator clipped on the floor and all of a

sudden the tv freaks out and I get a purple, I mean

PURPLE glow like I've never seen! darker than the

violet ray machine . I realized I created a spark gap

and got a ozone emem3 setup, very healing but i think

I blew the trsnsistor. My question is this setup

practical will transistors hold up? should I insert a

spark plug? or just stick to the blue plasma glow

setup? thanx, av77794928@...

Ok... MOSFET specsheets found on " Mouser " . Not much diffferent from

2n6059 in size for fumblefingers. Thanks Dave. Del

How important is the " base current " to final voltage at the tube?

Now that I've done two " poorman's " that work, I'll have to admit I

have had to make allowances for differences I'm sure I do not

understand. Low pc output voltage: NO resistor; both pc speaker

wires needed small capacitors in order to fire the tube. Regular pc

about 5 volts: still no resistor, no need for capacitors on Emitter

or Base from pc and fires the tube fine. Output from second unit

really is much better than the first (tho the first unit works

OK...puppy poo; dead worms) So, my impression is that the individual

pc voltage info is necessary in order to calculate the resistor. (Way

beyond me) Also, how much better than the 2n6059 is the MOSFET

(there are half a dozen catalogued; which one would be most suitable

assuming more than one auto coil from unknown sources in // I

really appreciate all this help and helpful commentary from which one

can pick up bits of info. Del
