Another question for you all....

We are currently trying to decide if we will/should preserve 's cord

blood. Due to the MDS, we understand that the cells could only be used for her

(which of course we are fine with). But, our question (which no one has been

able to answer) is there a way to screen the sample to determine the percentage

of additional 21st chromosomes in the sample. For example, if the sample is

stored in a 6 compartment bag, is it possible to screen each of the samples to

determine the percentage of extra chromosomes in each individual sample (so that

the sample with the lowest percentage could be used), or do you just go for it?

Has anyone used cord blood for any reason?

Any other thoughts?

Many thanks!

Leanne

Hi Leanne,

I have forwarded your question to our Genetic Counselor on our IMDSA Advisory

Board. As soon as she answers me I will let you know.

Cord Blood banking is new to me, so I really do not know what the benefits of

it are. Perhaps you can explain that to me?
