Guest guest
Hi all - I have a very basic cosmetic ingredients handbook which does not cover too much the technical side, however all the same is quite good. Just recently I looked up in the book under dipropylene glycol and it said " see propylene glycol " . My question is - is there a difference between dipropylene glycol and propylene glycol? Thanking everyone in anticipation of taking the time to answer this question. - Alannah
Guest guest
Hi Maurice Thank you for your quick reply. I'm looking at making incense sticks. I have researched this on the internet and have found that I need to mix my fragrance oil or essential oil with dipropylene glycol and then have to coat the sticks with this mixture. - Alannah > > >My question is - is there a difference between dipropylene glycol and > >propylene glycol? > > Yes there is a difference. Many fragrances and essential oils are soluble in dipropylene glycol. When I've made incense for myself, I've used ethyl alcohol. Dipropylene glycol should've worked also. maurice ------------------------ Maurice O. Guest guest
Hi Maurice Thank you again for your quick response. So, am I correct in assuming that DPG and ethyl alcohol can be used in the same way for making incense, ie - 1 part fragrance oil to 2 or 3 parts DPG or ethyl alcohol? Which in your opinion would be the best to use - DPG or ethyl alcohol? Guest guest
Alannah, I have not been making incense for years, but the person who got me into it has. She sells it in volumes of upwards of 30,000 and more at a time to shops all over the country. She would NEVER use alcohol. Eventually it starts to dry out your incense, and as it dries, you incense burns quicker. So the older your incense, the quicker it burns and the less it 'smells' too. That's the difference between flea market incense that burns about 20 minutes and barely scents a room, and Handrolled/Dipped/Sprayed incense that use's DPG. If you are making it for yourself, and are going to use it fairly soon, it is fine, but if you are going to sell it....well. I'm not a professional incense scenter, but I did get my info (which has worked for me!) from one! LOL Becky :-D Hi Maurice Thank you again for your quick response.
