Guest guest
To all: As some of you may be aware, I have ill fitting dentures that cannot be replaced until May 2004. I saw a Pain Specialist who agreed to care for me until May 2004 or possibly a little after. The new dentist won't begin to make my new dentures until I have paid at least 75% of my portion ($1,000.00) that the insurance won't cover. This new dentist was my second opinion. I just paid $1,600.00 out of my pocket for these dentures from the bad dentist in August 2003 so I have no choice but to make monthly payments in the amount of $400.00 starting in February, which will really hurt us financially considering the $1,600.00 we just paid out. The new dentist grinded down the teeth and gum part of my dentures, making them extremely loose in an effort to relieve some of the pain, making them even more ill fitting. I have gum and jaw pain with headaches/migraines with nausea and or vomiting or both on a daily basis. It makes it extremely painful to eat just about anything unless it is pudding, applesauce, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, etc. That diet gets boring, not to mention it is not healthy. I lost 75 pounds in a year because of my denture ordeal. The old, bad dentist made me go without any teeth whatsoever for 6 months. I called it my " bad teeth/denture diet. " My questions are as follows..... The Pain Specialist prescribed me Methadone 10mg to take 2 times daily, Darvon 65mg for breakthrough pain, every 4 hours. Celebrex 100mg once daily, Effexor 75mg daily, and Elavil 10mg at bedtime. The Methadone is of course for pain, but I was wondering how long I would have to take it without it making me feel like I want to pass out? I also don't want to build up a tolerance either. The Darvon isn't as strong and I don't think I'll need very much of it. The Celebrex, I imagine, is to keep swelling down from the ill fitting dentures. He told me he put me on Elavil to help with chronic pain as that was one use for it. He put me on the Effexor to help with depression from the chronic pain. Does this course of treatment sound right to everyone? All the different medications and two antidepressants, but one (Elavil) helps chronic pain, supposedly. At least that is what the Pharmacist told me. I know you all suffer from chronic pain in one form or another. Has anyone been treated like I have with these types of medications? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Vicki
