We had a preterm patient come in and deliver at 35 weeks gestation, patient

was

asymtomatic for any infection ie. increased WBC's or temp, but when pumping

her breast to give to the baby, she produced green colostrum, about the color

of pea soup meconium. Anyone ever seen this or heard of it happening before.

Would love more information if any. Oh the patient also had green nipple

discharge in July and is documented with Staph epider. ??????????

I have seen pale green tinged colostrum in some patients, but never pea soup

color. Must have been scary to see that!!

Also, some medications can change your urine or tear color....urised and

pyridium come to mind...I once had yellow contacts after a few days of

pyridium. Lori

I have had green colostrum-like discharge from my nipples for the last year

and a half, or so. My OB/GYN has checked me over thoroughly and reassured

me that all is well and normal for me. I do not know why the color changed

from normal colostrum pale creamy yellow to this pale creamy green in me.

My OB/GYN doesn't know, either. I do know that I do not have an infection,

nor do I have CA.

Don't we all have S. epidermis as normal flora on our skin? Culturing the

discharge would cause a contaminated culture. Unless the culture was

obtained by sterile biopsy via needle aspiration (ouch!), I think it would

show S. epidermis. Even then, it might be picked as the needle passes

through the skin, despite a betadine scrub. Micro and ID are not my forte,

so I could be way off base on this...
