Guest guest
I've been watching this one. Possible Category 4? That's nasty. A much weaker hurricane caused much damage here a few years ago. Not looking forward to that again, particularly given how much some of the surrounding neighborhoods have changed. As it stands, the center of the track is steadily shifting east. Its slow but sure and it will suit me just fine if it keeps going. We need rain here, but the wind is another matter. This is the main site that I use now to track these storms. http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/ In a message dated 8/23/2011 12:49:01 A.M. Guest guest
I will. Like I said, I'm going to keep a close eye on this thing. Already I'm holding off going to the grocery for perishables until next week when this storm has passed by or done its damage. No sense stocking up the fridge and having it all go bad. But like I said, its slowly shifting east so hopefully it will keep going. In a message dated 8/23/2011 1:20:03 A.M. Guest guest
Earlier this summer while I was in Canada, and while my parents were on vacation, the power went out for three days after a storm and they lost a lot of food. Earlier than THAT the basement got flooded for the first time in years. 7 inches of water for a very short time. They had to replace the water heater after that. And those were just passing severe thunderstorms. So even if the hurricane misses you, you can still get a lot of rain and severe weather. Administrator I will. Guest guest
That reminds me: I need to go out and reopen some of the drainage ditches around the house. The basement here use to flood a lot, not 7 inches but water all over the place before I had some work done inside and dug out the ditches. They've filled up over the years because they haven't really been needed. I can work a little over the next couple of days to open them up again. Losing food is really annoying. I've always hated wasting food. I've go the fridge pretty well cleaned out, or will have in the next two days. Still have a fair amount in the freezer, but that's just going to have to take its chances. Irene is still trending slightly more eastward but its slowing down. It was going to get here Saturday night but not its Sunday afternoon. That's more time to get stronger. Still, if it keeps up the trend, it will pass east of here, the eye will. I'll keep updates coming on this. In a message dated 8/23/2011 2:13:27 A.M.
