Do you drink milk in large amounts? My family drinks a quart or two at a time. So althought you can get gallon jars/jugs It makes more sense for us to get and use quart jugs. I have narrow mouth quart jugs (glass). We drink from the jug most of the time, but then we drink all of the jug. So we take one out drink/rinse/wash than set aside to dry. I do have 1/2 jars to store cream for butter making, and other cream uses. Think about how you will use it and buy/find/trade to get containers that work best for you. I would get glass though. Wash with hot water, wash well. After milk has been in the container rinse with warm water than wash with hot. Sydnee

Guest guest
We go drink almost a gallon of milk a day and that's just myself, DH and 4 year old, and then I've also been trying to learn how to make cheese. We only get our milk once a week so we have few containers. We use gallon glass jugs that apple cider came in. My favorite container is half gallon milk jugs that I never returned for deposit. (I do have 2 plastic milk jugs that I use when we are traveling and the glass won't work) I clean them by washing them with hot water and soap and shaking them really well. If They seem a bit dirty or hazy then I rinse them out with hydrogen peroxide and even let it soak a bit. Haven't had any problems and have been doing this for a year.
