I finally located a source! And it's only 15 mins from my house! : ) I'm going to try to go and pick some up this weekend. : )

She milks the cows and chills the milk, that's it! And only $2.00 a gallon. : )

I will have to provide my own containers......... should I get some glass jars? Like big pickle jars?

Should I sterilize the jars? If so how?? : )

I'll bring a big ice chest for traveling, it's getting hot here in Louisiana. : P

I'm so excited!!!! I can't wait to drink milk again. : )

I want to do the milk diet before my surgery which is scheduled on May 4th, and during my recovery. I'm having a neck fusion due to an accident almost a year to the day.

I was thinking about getting 5-6 gallons per week......... do you all think that will be enough, too little, too much?

I won't have any wasted......... I just know my dogs will help me with any extra. ; )

YIPPPEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

Soon to be in a milky way, lol,

Dear Jen in Louisana,

Isn't $2.00 too little to pay a farmer for a gallon of milk?

Hi Jen,

Do you know what you will be doing with the milk (mostly doing that is). Do you drink milk in large amounts? My family drinks a quart or two at a time. So althought you can get gallon jars/jugs It makes more sense for us to get and use quart jugs. I have narrow mouth quart jugs (glass). We drink from the jug most of the time, but then we drink all of the jug. So we take one out drink/rinse/wash than set aside to dry. I do have 1/2 jars to store cream for butter making, and other cream uses.

Think about how you will use it and buy/find/trade to get containers that work best for you. I would get glass though.

Wash with hot water, wash well. After milk has been in the container rinse with warm water than wash with hot.

We go drink almost a gallon of milk a day and that's just myself, DH

and 4 year old, and then I've also been trying to learn how to make

cheese. We only get our milk once a week so we have few containers.

We use gallon glass jugs that apple cider came in. My favorite

container is half gallon milk jugs that I never returned for

deposit. (I do have 2 plastic milk jugs that I use when we are

traveling and the glass won't work)

I clean them by washing them with hot water and soap and shaking them

really well. If They seem a bit dirty or hazy then I rinse them out

with hydrogen peroxide and even let it soak a bit. Haven't had any

problems and have been doing this for a year.
