All these 'thank you's' for military service are rather well timed, as it's our Rememberance day on Sunday. My Guides are taking part in their local parade, and are atually leading it - they are in front of even the British Legion! (And the local Scouts.... :-))

My housemate asked me the other day why all the news presenters were wearing poppies (the symbol of remembrance day here)... it seemed almost a bit wrong to be explaining to a German about the origins of remembrance day.... Although now it is also used to remember those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan also.

We had a school assembly yesterday about remembrance day, and were told that sine the end of WW2, there has been just ONE year when no British military hgave been killed in battle.

Tha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...!

Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. I'll be who I want to be, and I'm proud to be me.

We've a similar holiday here, but name it Veterens Day. The poppies are also the symbol used. We use this day as the Amistice that ended WW1 went into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. We remberer all of Vet's, from any war. Many of us also honor those who served in times of peace, as it was their presence that helped guarantee the peace. Thanks to all who served.

Mike

ps I have heard it said by many that the toughest job in the military is to be the spouse of a soldier. Thanks also to the families for your un-hearlded sacrifices.

I would also like to say Thank You to all of you who served and are serving now. Sometimes others do not know the sacrifice the men and women in service make. My husband was retired Air force. Even in peace time the men and their families have some hard times. In peace time there is always the moves, etc. The friendship we made along the way was wonderful.

Thank You again Men and Women in the Service of our Country.
