Guest guest
Possible. Its funny that this can largely be traced back to WWI. The Turks ruled the Arabian Peninsula then but they were tricked into siding with Germany. Entering WWI was a major mistake because Turkey was suffering from economic problems and were pretty beaten up from wars they had already been fighting before WWI. The British made an alliance of convenience with certain Arab tribes to disrupt the Turks near Egypt. This is where T.E. Lawrence came into the picture. A film was later made of his exploits, "Lawrence of Arabia." Used to like that movie until I learned of what came from his actions. Simply put, the Turks warned the British to have nothing to do with the Arabs because they would regret it. Now, the main tribes they backed were followers of the Wahabi sect of Islam. By their association with the British, and the money the British were buying their loyalty with, they used it as a springboard to come to power in what is now Saudi Arabia. Later, they used oil money to send Wahabi clerics around the world to set up schools teaching their extremely strict and narrow interpretation of Islam and hatred of others, including non-Wahabi muslims. Small wonder that so many terror attacks have been carried out by Wahabis. It should also be noted that through WWI the US got most of its oil domestically or from fields in Mexico. However, in the 1920's, the Mexican government nationalized, that is stole, all foreign owned oil fields. Rather then send in the military and take the fields back, which would have exposed how pitifully weak the US Army was at the time and been political trouble for the politicians, we shifted to the Middle East because oil was somewhat cheaper there and it spited the Mexicans. So, since then, we've been not only funding terrorists by buying oil, but also protecting the House of Saud which has an agreement with the Wahabis, sort of a mutual survival pact: the Wahabis won't try too hard to overthrown the sinful House of Saud and the nation it built and the House of Saud won't kill the Wahabi leadership and will keep oil revenues flowing into their overseas schemes. It said he is a Wahabi follower, but did not cite its sources.
