I would take him off the Nystatin PRONTO.

We did what you are doing, which was to keep Kenny on nystatin even though it seemed to be making him worse.

WE HAD THE BIGGEST, LONGEST LASTING REGRESSION FROM THAT. This was several years ago, and we still aren't back to where we were cognitively at that time.

We are still slogging away at ABA (now a VB program) but I'd have to say that is the mistake I regret the most.

Please save yourself the heartache we have had and take him off the Nystatin ASAP!

[ ] OT: Yeast

Hi all: Here's a question for those of you treating yeast problems... We had been giving (2.5) nystatin 3x per day and culturelle 1x day for about two months...then he got the flu and was off all supplements for about 2 weeks. I kept him off the meds for an additional week while we completed the specimen gathering for Dr. Amy's tests. In that period of time he has been doing great...I mean fantastic as far as language, eye contact and engagement. Now, I have started him back on the nystatin again (only 1x day, trying to ramp up to the max dose again) and he has been just a mess...melting down, keeping to himself, horrible diarrhea, ulcerated sores on bottom, struggling for words). My husband wants him off the nystatin for good since he feels that is losing the gains he had made. I don't know what to do and since our test results aren't back we don't have anything official from Dr. Amy...although she did look at our test results from GPL and said that he probably had an unresolved clostridia problem and that nystatin would not address that. regression for about three months; literally running around the house

screaming and grabbing at his stomach all day long. We did this at the

suggestion of a doctor (won't mention name but not a DAN dr.) who told us

that even though yeast didn't show up on his stool test from GSDL, he

felt that since it benefitted him in the past, he should be on it again.

After consulting with a nutritionist we learned that if you treat yeast

when bacteria is in fact the problem, you exaserbate the bacteria and

cause a lot of havoc. We stopped the Nystatin and gave him Biocidin and

Primal Defense, and slowly he came back around. (Sorry to repeat this

story, I've told it before, just wanted to help.)

We found out about his bacteria problem from Great Smokies Diag. Lab

Digestive Stool Analysis lab test. Biocidin is available through Pathway

Labs (800) 869-9160 and Primal Defense is made by Garden of Life (A

health food store can order it for you.) They are both bacteria killer

supplements. I don't have the number handy for Garden of life, but if

you're interested, e-mail me back and I'll find it for you.

If you want to order Primal Defense online try a google search and you should be able to find a site that sells it. I did it this way but can't remember where I got it. It may have been directly from Garden of Life or a distributor.

, What were the symptoms of the bacteria problem. I am

going to the doctor with Jack soon for a consult, I might have them

run this test. Everytime I give Jack anything to help him get rid of

yeast, at the moment two drops of lavendar oil for 3 days, it is a

homeopathic solution. Anyway, his stool gets very yellow, he has

laughing fits, he rips things and smears whatever will smear, lotion,

soap ect. I think a gastro doctor check for some bacteria at one

point but I can't remember. Thanks for the information. Is Biocidin

an antibiotic of some sort? I wonder if I should leave the yeast

problem until chelation is over and just keep giving a good

acidophilos. (so many thoughts running through my head at once)

Biocidin is natural from what I can read on the label:Chlorophyll,

Impatiens pallida, garlic, ferula galbanum, and other ingred. It seemed

to help my son. I could tell something was wrong by his behavior:

irritable almost all of the time, crying, screaming and grabbing at his

stomach on and off a lot. He wasn't verbal at the time (since chelation

in Sept.. he is talking in sentences) He was saying one or two word

phrases before, I shouldn't say completely non-verbal, but not enough to

tell us what was wrong. After about three months of giving him Biocidin

and Primal Defense, his lab tests showed that he still had bacteria, but

not the dangerous type and high levels that he had prior.

You have to keep in mind that when you treat for Candida, symptoms will get

MUCH worse before they get better because when the yeast organisms are

killed, a large amount of their waste is released into the child's body

causing severe symptoms. This will generally begin a day or so after you

begin treatment and last for 3 or 4 days till the body clears out the yeast

waste-products. After this it's smooth sailing for the most part (as long

as you omit all sugars, processed foods, moldy environments, and stay on the

Nystatin for quite a while - probably till you've finished chelating).

How many Primal Defense does your son take a day? My son Ian takes 1 a day. We didn't find any yeast but also no good bacteria so that is why is Doctor suggested the Primal Defense. I am just curious. Ian is 4.2 and weighs around 35 lbs. Do you use any other probiotics?

Thanks, I read a doctors protocol that prescibed I think 2-3 a day so I was curious if that is what your son is on.

My son (6 yrs, 41 lbs) only takes 1 Primal Defense capsule a day which I

split and give half at a time. I gradually tried to give him 1 1/2-2 at

first and I believe he did have a sort of dye off reaction. He was really

miserable. I also give him probiotics by Florajen brand:Extra strength

with 11 billion per capsule Lactobicillus acidophilus. They also make

another type that has other probiotics in it in addition to lacto. acid.
