Without that information, thinking becomes less effective and more likely to give bad results. Just knowing where to look something up isn't as good as knowing some important things. Sure you might have to go and look up some specifics to assist with your thought processes and not every little detail need be memorized, but you still need to have facts in your brain to think well.
