Guest guest
Dear Sheila, Let me preface this by saying I am not an MD, I am a birth doula. So, please understand where biases and training come from. However, in nearly 8 years of practice, I have seen an increase of suspected placenta previa early on that is clear by about 20 weeks. I personally feel that this is a result of the increased use of ultrasound for " dating " in early pregnancy. Logically, placentas are closer to the cervix at 13 weeks than they are at 30. It is my opinion that this is another example of a normal artifact of pregnancy being categorized as pathologic. That being said, I can't see any reason for abstaining from the marital embrace in the absence of any other symptoms of threatened miscarriage or complication. Guest guest
There is no clear consensus on this. My attitude is that, in the days before routine US, we didn't know about this and it is very common, so in the absence of bleeding or other issues, I would not counsel a married couple to abstain. If there were any signs of trouble, that would be the indication to abstain. placenta previa Dear Group, If a woman has partial or complete placenta previa (not known for sure) with no bleeding and no cramping and no other discomfort at 13 weeks, does she have to abstain from the marriage act?
