Guest guest
Ok, the lists have been *very* quiet during this holiday weekend. I know we are spread out throughout the country and even the world. How many of us have snow right now? I am in NJ and just got hit 2 days ago with 20 inches of beautiful snow--though I might not have thought it quite as beautiful if I had to go to work in it! My job is especially tough in the snow because I am a home care nurse, so making home visits in many areas that have been poorly plowed or not plowed at all is horrible. And let's not even mention snow emergency roads....... So, my topic for today is: what happens to you in your jobs when there is severe snow like this? What measures are done to get you in to work, if any? Do you have any incentives from your job , or any help from them, such as sleeping quarters, extra pay, etc? And for some, what penalties do you get if any, for *not* being able to get to work? I know of a local hospital that actually wrote up employees with disciplinary actions for not showing up at work because their towns were closed due to the snow! The snow like this can bring out the best or the worst in people. I also know of another hospital who got a call from a teenager in the community who had a 4 wheel drive and offered to go and pick up or bring home staff from the hospital! He offered, and he had no connection to the hospital at all, was just being a good Samaritan. --------Jeanine
