Guest guest
Hey Siel, Just read your post about transpore tape. In my case, the hypoallergenic property does not work. I had to have shoulder sugery recently, and made sure that it was in nurse's notes and doc's notes that I could NOT tolerate any kind of adhesive tape, especially transpore. I had already had an experience where it ate my skin off after a cystocele repair. Regardless, they DID put it on me. Within 24 hrs. I had purple welts and severe reaction. Fortunately, I had some paper tape at home, and had my home health aid remove the dressing immediately. Had I continued to take the demerol (which puts me into a fog), by the next day it would have eaten the skin off. I called 3M's 800 number and told them what happened. They hooked me up with a " medical complaints investigator " . I asked her what the adhesive was. It is called " iso/octyl acrylate " . She wanted me to call her back after I told the surgeon what happened. I told him and he didnt seem too concerned, " Well, they should have put paper tape on you " , was his offhand comment. The investigator said, " With the type of reaction you were having, he might not have been so non-chalant had you went into anaphylaxis. Needless to say, there are exceptions and I am one!! 3M was very nice to me and sent me some paper tape to test and I had no reaction. She said if I have to have another surgery, she will send me a big roll of the wide to carry into operating room with me. Just my 2cents worth, Diane
