Here is an extract of the article from LDN.org Pain Therapeutics, Inc. trials for Irritable Bowel Syndrome From the website of Pain Therapeutics, Inc: Results from a 50-patient pilot study with PTI-901 [0.5mg naltrexone daily] in men and women were announced in May 2003 and presented at the American College of Gastroenterology meeting in October 2003. In this open-label study, patients with IBS reported a 76% response rate to PTI-901. This response rate was observed in both men and women and occurred without drug-related safety issues. In November 2003, we announced the initiation of a Phase III program with PTI-901. The Phase III program consists of two clinical studies that are identical in all respects, except for gender. One study will enroll 600 women and the other will enroll 600 men, all of whom have been diagnosed with chronic IBS by a gastroenterologist according to clinically accepted criteria. Each Phase III study is randomized, double-blinded and will assess the clinical effect of PTI-901 against placebo during a three-month treatment period.
