In order to be deductible, medical expenses have to exceed 7.5% of gross income for the year. Unless your medical expenses were huge compared to what you earned, they are no good for tax purposes. A way around the 7.5% requirement would be a flexible spending/medical expense account which would have to have been set up at the beginning of the tax year. However, last time I checked with ADP, NFB did not qualify for flex spending as it was considered experimental treatment. A good tax lawyer, of course, might be able to take this up with the IRS... Please note I'm not qualified to give tax advice so don't take the above as such."Marvin H. Berman, Ph.D." wrote: I would expect that equipment purchased without a prescription or as part of a treatment relationship with a licensed professional is probably not deductible as a medical expense. I would take this up with an accountant but it would not seem likely that the IRS is going to take your word for it that this thing represents bona fide medical treatment. We sell equipment to our clients and this allows them to deduct their costs that are unreimbursed by their medical insurance. Marvin Berman, Ph.D. Marvin H. Also,

has anyone purchased the equipment and used it for tax deductions? We plan to do home training and purchase some equipment. I was wondering if Uncle Sam would question it if I put the cost of the equipment down as medical supplies. So I don't know whether to buy it next week or wait until 2007. Hi,

We have Blue Cross/Blue Shield (Federal Plan) and we are going to purchase

equipment in January. We were sent the form for the doctor to sign. The hardware

and software is deductible.

Dear Dr. Berman,

We have two doctors that are authorizing the purchase of the equipment: our

psychiatrist and pediatrician.
