An important part of the programme of the BOHS conference later this

month will be a workshop on Wednesday 25th on low-toxicity dusts.

This will be in two parts, 0830-1000 and 1330-1500. The intention

is to review the scientific evidence for health effects from low toxicity

dusts and discuss this, together with practical aspects of exposure, and

what action is needed

The first session will comprise presentations by Cherrie (Institute

of Occupational Medicine), Alastair Hay (Leeds University, WATCH and EU

SCOEL committees), and Brosseau (University of Minnesota and ACGIH)

on the problem, and on the regulatory and other measures taken in Europe

and the US.

The second session will be mainly discussion of the problem, but will

begin with brief presentations by three experienced hygienists, Kelvin

, Stear, and O'Malley, on practical problems of

dealing with these dusts in the workplace.

We plan that one outcome will be a commentary on the problems in ls

of Occupational Hygiene.

Please come and take part. For conference details, see
