Anytime I've had surgery with my MS being chronic progressive once the nerves are cut the nerves never re-attach. You could cause permanent damage to the already affected nerves by having surgery. You need physical therapy to the foot and leg. Pool therapy along with other therapies would be best if possible.
Guest guest
> I agree with . I also have foot drop and have just ordered an AFO foot orthosis (ankle foot orthosis). They help you walk without tripping. I am having mine custom made here is Canada and it is costing me $850.00 Canadian dollars (approximately $725.00 US dollars). My cost is covered 80% by my husband's extended medical benefit package at work. They took a cast of my leg so it will fit well.
Guest guest
Kathy:) I agree with both and ) Your best bet is the foot brace. It made all of the difference for me. Think of it as a capitol letter L. In essance, the shape. OK, the toe doesn't turn up:) But the shape allows your foot to rest (be supported) on the bottom so your toes no longer drop or go backwards when you walk.I found that my driving was much easier also, although my doctor said I shouldn't even be driving. The upper part of the L has a velcro strap which goes around your calf. I had another strap put on beneeth my ankle so I could walk in the house with it on ~ without my shoes. Again, that wasn't recommended, but we MSers find our own ways to do what we want, don't we?
