Americans most likely suffer more osteoporosis because the majority does not

engage in weight-bearing exercise, amongst other poor dietary habits. My

family and I consume many gallons of milk per week, always have (raised on a

dairy farm). Had my bone density checked...I'm 'off the chart' in the

HEALTHY direction as far as bone mass (have always engaged in weight bearing

exercise, also.) My mother, also living on that dairy farm, didn't like to

drink milk and at age 65 her bones look like mush and her spine is

'collapsing'.....coincidence??? Just my 2 cents....

Some studies

> show that the reason we have Osteoporosis might be because we drink

> too much milk.....

Here's another opinion on calcium....my 10 year old daughter broke her arm in PE yesterday and the orthopedic doctor said that all children at pre-adolescence need to start taking a calcium supplement. He said 2 to 3 Tums per day would do it as long as they are consuming Vitamin D along with it (taking a regular vitamin with D in it at that time would suffice). He said girls need to continue this throughout their lives while boys can end it at about age 18. He also said Viactiv was a good choice since it has D in it (thanks, Tina....I've been taking those for a couple of months thanks to your message).

I suppose my girls could get their calcium through milk and other foods but I'm giving them the supplements to be certain they're getting it.
