In my case I was at college and we saw a stray kitten and it was winter...we felt sorry for it so snuck it into the dorm past the dorm mother in an overnight bag. Me being with an already weakened immune system from MS I was the only one who was affected by the cat scratch disease infection. Do a search in your search engine for Cat Scratch Fever. There are mild to severe cases. My case was quite bad. I actually had a second erruption of cat scratch fever the year after the initial one so that means it's still running in my bloodstream because I had not been anywhere near a cat the second time. From there the MS went crazy. Cat scrat disease can be passed to offspring via blood. Your offspring can carry the disease in their blood, it may lie dormant for their entire life or it could get a trigger causing factor and errupt.
