It creates a reasonable protective barrier, but is not completely water and air tight like plastic, is clear and is a natural product (made from cellulose). The down side is that you can't shrink it, so every bar has to be hand-wrapped like a little Christmas present. But, believe me, you get the hang of it after a while .... I've probably wrapped 30,000 bars so far - and every one of them by hand!
