Guest guest
Peggy, This is a cationic surfactant that is most commonly used as a hair conditioner. Because it is cationic it is not compatible with anionics and in particular soap. The terms cationic and anionic refer to the very small electrical charge that the molecule has on its surface. Young KY Labs Innovators of Fine Personal Products www.kylabs.com behentrimonium methosulfate Can someone tell me what behentrimonium methosulfate is and what it is used for? But I don't know anyone that supplies Behentrimonium Methosulfate as a single ingredient. This cationic surfactant is usually blended Cetearyl Alcohol. You can think of Behentrimonium Methosulfate and Cetearyl Alcohol as a cationic emulsifying wax. I'm guessing, but I'd say that Croda < http://www.crodausa.com/ > manufactures and sell most of the Behentrimonium Methosulfate in the marketplace today and it is sold under the trade name Incroquat Behenyl TMS. Angie at The Herbarie < http://www.theherbarie.com> sells Incroquat Behenyl TMS under her trade name Emulsifying Conditioner: http://www.theherbarie.com/emulsfy.html#emulsifyconditioner > and what it is used for? If you go to the Croda website < http://www.crodausa.com/> you'll find information on Incroquat Behenyl TMS and some formulas. Angie also has formulas on her website that are " homecrafter friendly " . Quoting from a Croda's sales document for Incroquat Behenyl TMS " INCROQUAT BEHENYL TMS is a quaternary conditioning agent and cationic emulsifier based on a C22 long chain fatty moiety, making it tremendously effective as a detangler for hair, yet safe and gentle enough for leave-on skin care products. Noted for its exceptional mildness, INCROQUAT BEHENYL TMS produces elegant cationic emulsions that are substantive to skin and hair. These emulsions provide a soft powdery afterfeel that persists on the skin and a silky smoothness that leaves hair tangle-free. INCROQUAT BEHENYL TMS has a wide range of applications in skin care, as well as hair care. Its exceptionally mild properties make it an ideal choice for leave-in conditioners. Because it can function as the primary emulsifier, INCROQUAT BEHENYL TMS can be used as the sole oil-phase ingredient in 'bare-minimum' balsam conditioners, allowing an economical product to be produced without sacrificing performance. INCROQUAT BEHENYL TMS has also shown superior results in ethnic hair care systems, leaving a softer feel and greater sheen in comparison to stearalkonium chloride, it has become a conditioner of choice for relaxers. INCROQUAT BEHENYL TMS offers innovative properties to formulations. Since the fatty alcohol moiety behaves as a thickener, formulating with INCROQUAT BEHENYL TMS is easier. As a primary emulsifier, INCROQUAT BEHENYL TMS gives body and thickness to emulsion systems, and as a conditioning agent, confers conditioning, softening and emollient effects to skin and hair. In skin creams and lotions INCROQUAT BEHENYL TMS creates a soft, powdery afterfeel. Because it is substantive to hair, it imparts excellent body and spring and improves wet comb. In cream rinses it enhances manageability by reducing flyaway and can sometimes add an interesting pearlescent effect to the emulsion.
