ENVIRONMENTAL WARNINGS FOR CHILDREN ON MERCURY CONTENT OF HOUSEHOLD LIGHT BULBS

ON

LONG ISLAND

MINEOLA, NY

Autism United President Ain, New York State Senator Craig of

the Consumer Protection Committee, New York State Assemblymen Mark Alessi and

Harvey Weisenberg will join with Long Island Children Advocacy Groups in a

press conference issuing warnings on the use and disposal of energy-efficient

compact fluorescent light bulbs due to amounts of mercury. The mercury

content in these energy saving light bulbs could provide a danger and risk to

children throughout the region. The news conference will take place on Thursday

May 22, 2008 at the Mineola Press Room in the Supreme Court Bldg in Mineola.

As Long Islanders joins millions of people switching to compact fluorescent

lights to save money and reduce energy consumption they are placed at risk

due to a highly toxic heavy metal. It poses a potential environmental concern

if not carefully disposed especially if they’re broken. President Bush signed

an energy bill last December which mandates phasing in energy-saving bulbs

starting in 2012.
