I now have a pretty good idea without it but I still like to do the numbers whenever I change recipes radically. Thanks a lot for the information on how to figure the number...I just have a copy of the list and no other information. That really helps. The INS number is simply the average Iodine value subtracted from the KOH sap value. eg for oil XYZ, if the KOH sap value is 195, and the Iodine value is 112, then the INS would be 195 - 112 = 83 When Mcs book first came out, he was on a number of soaping lists, and provided that information for people to calculate values for oils not included in the list in the book.
