Guest guest
Dear Sue, This is one subject some people find frustrating and it goes fine for others. The first thing is to call SS and ask for information and an application form. They ask lots of questions - want to know all of your doctors and what tests you've had, where and when. It needs to be filled out thoroughly, ask for help if you need it. When you submit it it takes awhile to hear back - they'll tell approx time frame. If you get denied, most people here have said to try again until you get it. Good luck! Paper work is a definite pain. Amy in WA

Guest guest
Those of you who can get work as well as gov't disability are blessed! I have been on gov't disability alone going on 10 plus years and it is NOT fun because I have so many severe body issues: SO If I can give you all ANY HELP it will be to always always always be in touch with the counselor you are assigned to. These counselors are overworked and usually underpaid. To them we are only a number UNLESS they get to know us!! So--make sure that every time you have a test (MRI, CAT, Ultrasound, Blood etc) let them know and if possible send them the printed results (especially if they are not up to par). If your doctor(s) have changed or added medicines, send them a small letter with the prescription change to them. If you can get pictures of your spine (X-Ray) and it looks pretty messed up or something in particular looks " off " -- either bring in the x-rays or other scans to them (I have very severe scoliosis along w/fibromyalgia, Hepatitis C, breathing problems, severe disc problems throughout my spine, some places where there is (I had something like 12 pages of problems written up after my last MRI from the Radiologist. The questionaire you have to fill out for disability should show that you basically cannot do much around the home/clean, cook, walk any distance w/o pain...OH..and make sure that all your doctors write you letters saying that you cannot work and will not be able to ever return to work again. If I can find my SS file, I will try to put in some other pointers. I GOT APPROVED THE 1ST TIME and NEVER HAD TO HIRE AN ATTORNEY. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL and I hope I gave some of you some ideas to follow. Tina
Guest guest
Wow, any help is greatly appreciated. I will take you advice and run with it. I am starting the process now. Slowly, but I know I need to go ahead. After too many years of trying to continue working and coming close to getting fired and actually getting fired because of absenteeism due to the same chronic conditions...It is time! Anything additional you can add, would be great. Thanks, Shayna > > Those of you who can get work as well as gov't disability are blessed! > I have been on gov't disability alone going on 10 plus years and it > is NOT fun because I have so many severe body issues: SO > > If I can give you all ANY HELP it will be to always always always be > in touch with the counselor you are assigned to. Guest guest
, I'm glad Dis. worked out 1st time for you. I got turned down 1st time because my lawyer didn't respond to SS in time. If I get turned down again (should have a decision month or so) I will lose EVERYTHING I ever worked for! I'm 50yrs old, I had L4/L5/S1 fused in 2003 the longer hardware is in the more I decline. Multiple blood-clots in both lungs 2005, about bought the farm that time? Car accident 4-07 and they found benign tumor on C-2. I had known about DDD in C-spine for years and am now getting stingers down mainly right arm. I need my neck fused but I will not get it done because of nerve damage & other potential complications I have nerve issues from my lower spine fusion in 2003. I don't need more problems. I have early stages of emphysema. I need surgery on my left shoulder because I worked hard my whole life and it is almost useless now. To top off all of this fun and frivolity I had a Grand Mal seizure on 4-19-08 while driving. I have had people including my brother-in-law who is also my next door neighbor, accuse me of being lazy and a freeloader. I worked 50hrs a week till 4-07. I have no health ins and am out of options. It's too expensive to stay alive it seems. I'm used to earning upper middle class income but have had no regular income for over a year. I don't know how many people could go through all this and not have some serious money issues. I guess it's the (walk a mile in our shoes) issue. It is so hard for most people to scratch the surface of what we go through. They just don't know or don't care. Best to all! Guest guest
Bill...don't give up hope. They may not get it, but WE DO! Most of us have walked that mile...well at least a quarter of it. I find myself everyday, really wondering...Do they understand? Do they have any clue what I am going through? The boyfriend, tries to be supportive...but in the back of my mind I can't help but wonder...does he really get it or is he just humoring me? Sounds like has good advice. If you haven't already, get it all together. Everything, every disease every diagnosis you have ever had and have it ready to go. So, when they ask...WHY DO YOU DESERVE THIS MONEY? You can say " HERE, LOOK AT THIS!! " That is my plan at least. I will keep my finger crossed for you, please do the same for me. PS. What is your point of view? Your a guy, if he says he is okay and understands about what is going on...does he? What have you had diagnosed? I was doing some reading earlier tonight...Your combination of symptoms could fall under one heading if diagnosed correctly...which actually might help your disability case in the long run. Guest guest
Degenerative disc disease in 2 verts in my neck. I have 6 screws and 2 titanium rods in lower back. Blood clots in lungs. I had a seizure and lost consciousness less than a month ago. Both my shoulders are shot. My left one needs surgery as does my neck. Nerve damage from my lower back surgery. I would think that should do it, but who knows? My girlfriend knows all about my health and is OK with things. Guys are usually very direct about this stuff, believe him. Guest guest
The blood clots concern me. What are they doing? Anything? I know there is no health insurance, but shouldn't you be in a hospital somewhere? It really comes down to documentation. You have all of those things wrong with you, but if the doctors and the radiologists and all those wackos that we trust with our lives didn't document it properly they can try to find a reason to turn you down. So, again, not to preach at you...But, get everything together and make sure it is documented exactly the way suggested. He can't work and will never be able to work again!!! I won't just cross my fingers for you honey, I am going to cross my eyes and my toes too. If they don't give you some kind of help, then something AIN'T RIGHT!! I did read enough about SSI and everything to know, it says you don't get health insurance until you have been on it for two years....can someone please explain that one to me. You can't work, therefore you have no health insurance and you can't pay out of pocket....What are you suppose to do for healthcare during the first two years you are on disability? Do they know why you had the seizure? You are very lucky to have someone who cares about you and understands. Thank you for the advice. You sound like him... " Guys are direct " lol and FYI...his name is Bill.. LOL!!! too funny > > > > > > > Those of you who can get work as well as gov't > > > > disability are blessed! > > > > I have been on gov't disability alone going on > > 10 > > > > plus years and it > > > > is NOT fun because I have so many severe body > > > > issues: SO > > > > > > > > If I can give you all ANY HELP it will be to > > always > > > > always always be > > > > in touch with the counselor you are assigned to. > > > > > > These counselors are > > > > overworked and usually underpaid. Guest guest
Blood clots are disolved but still show as shadows on my lung x-rays. I have all doc's showing my ailments. I have a Dr appt at the Hosp for SS Dis on May 20th. They want to x-ray my back and neck and shoulder. This is really stupid. I signed a release of my records. This included MRI's CT scans and x-rays. It's like my Dr's put in fake Mri's & x-rays?? This is the kind of thing that shows BIG GOVT does not work! They have my entire file and images? All they have to do is look at my 2 big scars on my neck and lower back. I guess I'm faking those also? --- shaynal2003 <shaynal2003@...> wrote: > The blood clots concern me. Guest guest
Gee,you wouldn't happen to be a conservative Republican would you? lol I fully agree with you. Our version of Medicare in this state is a joke. They have already proven that thousands of people who didn't deserve benefits were receiving them and the same amount weren't. It's incredible...Now everyone has to pay for a few peoples screw up. Isn't that how it always goes. I am glad to hear the clots are disolved, you had me worried. So the appointment for the x-ray, that was set by SSI? So, you are having to see there doctor? Yeah, I agree...What do they think your doc is lying? That is stupid. I know some people can be crooked, but like you said " It's like my Dr's put in fake Mri's & x-rays?? " I understand they want to make sure they are giving the benefits to the right people, but sometimes enough is enough. I have an appointment to see a new primary care phys next week and am making arrangements for all of my records from every doctor I have ever seen to be transferred to him. This way, He can do the research...look at all the documents and hopefully help with my case. I haven't filed yet. I want to have everything together before I do. Maybe that will make a difference. > > > > > > > > > > > Those of you who can get work as well as > > gov't > > > > > > disability are blessed! > > > > > > I have been on gov't disability alone going > > on > > > > 10 > > > > > > plus years and it > > > > > > is NOT fun because I have so many severe > > body > > > > > > issues: SO > > > > > > > > > > > > If I can give you all ANY HELP it will be to > > > > always > > > > > > always always be > > > > > > in touch with the counselor you are assigned > > to. > > > > > > > > > > These counselors are > > > > > > overworked and usually underpaid. Guest guest
Why yes I am a Conservative. I wouldn't label myself a Repub cause I have real probs with our current Pres. He has spent $ like a drunken sailor. It's modern life, con artists get the $ cause that's what they do for a living. Drs at times are worse, double and triple billing of claims, especially medicare. I spent 13yrs in Insurance and invesment industry and have seen it all. I am a single parent and have kept my house but barely. Who could have no regular income for over a year and not have probs. On top of all that no ins. Just got a bill for over 10,000 for my seizure!! I spent 1 & 1/2 days in the hosp 10K for that??????? Always had ins but if you cant pay for it it's useless! Even if you have it you may not be covered. My first back surg was $86,000 after $60,000 my employer quit paying. They were self insured and a Fortune 500 company. I beat them in court but only recovered the $26,000 cause there is no punitive damages in ERISA code!!! Who got the money? The lawyers representing me! I was on pace to retire @ 60yrs old. Now I'm lucky to have a roof and basic things. Won't last much longer! They must think I really want to live on 1400 a month! I've made 25K in one week before. Those days are long gone! Sorry for the rant! Get your stuff ready and be prepared to feel like a thief casue that's what they do to ya. --- shaynal2003 <shaynal2003@...> wrote: > Gee,you wouldn't happen to be a conservative > Republican would you? lol > I fully agree with you.
