Until now, it was my misconception that only ladies wanted to seem younger, but now the General has proved me wrong! Yes! Our very own army chief, VK Singh wants the government to declare him one year younger and the government is unwilling to oblige. VK Singh has pointed out that his birth certificate shows him to be one year younger and the government has asked why it has dawned upon him so late. Probably, as the old saw goes, wisdom comes with age! So when VK Singh became officially old, he also became wiser (or as the government might claim: 'Over-wise'!). Another argument is that when he was promoted to be Army chief, he did not utter a word or say that he was a year younger and didn't deserve to be promoted. In fact, at that time Singh went happily singing all the way to the bank with his promotion, so why is he crying now? Maybe Singh is singing a different tune? So will Singh fade gracefully into the sunset or will he be dragged kicking and screaming? If Singh's strategy of going to court ends up as courting trouble, may I suggest an alternate career for him. He can now easily model for those anti ageing creams and claim that they made him one year younger! That way, instead of the Court of law, he could end up courting his wife again! However, if the General wins, we could just frame a new saying: " As a general rule people become old with age, but as an old rule, Generals do not age! It is the way the General was generally treated by the I Am Safe (IAS) officers that actually snapped his patience. BTW, the IAS will win each time and every time including this particular row. I wonder since when that has become the standard age proof. Then I would like to declare my age to be sweet sixteen!
