At my end's wit with doctors telling me to lose weight about 50 pounds

to ease the pressure on my spine...I wonder if it does help the pain?

Ok I am going to the YMCA but to go on the diet the doctor prescribe,

I don't know. It is a strict diet removing all carbs...what scares me

is sticking to it...I have a big sweet tooth plus eat when I am in pain...

Last couple days, had restless sleep...the house is not in

order...behind in laundry...thankgoodness it is friday...hopefully my

husband can help the laundry...

My kids can get my 'full attention' today...they are off school

today...teacher conference.

Please take me away to a nice sunny location...massages all day...

It sure helped me. I lost 60 pounds.

I equated the excess weight to lugging around six 10 pound bags of flour

strapped to my body at all times. I'd never purposely do that, yet that's

basically what I was carting around with me before I lost weight.

I lost the weight one 10 pound bag of flour at a time :-)

I didn't do any fancy diets. I exercised as best I could and I ate all my

favourite things. I just didn't eat so darned much of them.

Joan:

I guess I have been very fortunate with my doctors. The only one that has

every given me any grief over my weight is my ob/gyn. According to him, I

am about 30 to 40 pounds over what I am supposed to weigh for my height and

body type. Well, I have been on Depo-Provera birth control shot, up until

this past August 7th, for right at 7 years. The number one side effect of

Depo-Provera is weight gain! He knows and knew this. Well, after he did my

partial hysterectomy, I haven't been back to him except for the post-op

visit. My estrogen levels and such was taken care of my my mother's doctor.

While he isn't a full-fledged ob/gyn, he has taken care of plenty of

pregnant women and women who have female issues, as well as those who are

menopausal and post menopausal. He is really well-versed in the field

considering he is not an ob/gyn. He also has more compassion that the

ob/gyn I had!

My regular doctor, rheumatologist, and neurologist just barely mentioned my

weight. It was as if in passing. My regular doctor basically tells me that

yes, it would help some but the weight wasn't put on overnight and it would

not come off that way either. Since my hysterectomy, I have slowly been

losing inches but not really making a great big dent in my poundage. He

said it would take time for the Depo to get out of my system and with my

age, it would be harder to lose weight now. I am taking it slowly and doing

it on my own. I already cook only low-sodium, low-cholesterol, diabetic

meals because my husband has high blood pressure and is a diabetic. My

teenager has a heart condition as well. I have just learned to eat how I

cook for them. I also eat a lot fruits and veggies for myself.

My biggest problem in losing weight is that my joints are so messed up that

I can't get out and walk without pain to lose the weight. The spa visits I

was making last year was doing a lot of good. I hope that when my spa is

installed at home that the same holds true and I will start losing weight

again. I exercised in the fitness center's spa and will be doing it also in

the one we are installing.

I wish you luck in your efforts. Just remember that you do deserve a snack

of your own choosing every now and again. If for nothing else but to keep

your spirits up.

Sam

Joan,

Losing weight will help some with the pain...as your doctor says, it will

relive some pressure on your back.

Not to worry about the sweet tooth, I've been on a low carb diet many times

and they have so many protien bars, and candy bars (most by Adkins) that you

can eat on a low carb diet. Now they even make brownie mixes, muffin mixes,

all sorts of sweet stuff with low carbs.

One nice thing (for me anyway) about low carb diets is that they work fast

and the things you can eat, you can eat a lot of so you are never hungry.

Good luck.
