Guest guest
Hi list Sorry for the cross post, but I need some advice. I just came home from another yucky IEP meeting, and I took 's book, How to Compromise with Your District Without Compromising Your Child, with me and various emails I got from people from my last post about extended day services, as we are requesting extended day services to get some 1:1 priming training for social skills. Present at the meeting was the second in command at the district level for special services. We made our request verbally for extended day services, and all this person would say is that she feels that the new programming they are going to implement will be appropriate and that extended day services will not be needed, yet didn't officially say " No " . She requested we write a letter to the head of special services to make our request. My question to anyone(especially Mayerson) is, what exactly should we put in this letter?? How should we word it?? I have been reading 's book like the Bible, and it is incredible, but I am not quite sure if this request from this district person is even legal?? There is a form letter in 's book for a refusal, but she specifically said she wasn't saying no............her boss is very famous for being horrible, and I am sure she didn't want to cross her, yet did she not have the authority to say yes? Do I put the district on " ten day notice " or do I go ahead and write the letter of request? Everyone at the meeting said I made valid points when I pulled quotes out of the book, and told me to put it in the letter..............yet, why could this not be decided by the IEP team?? I want to be fair and am willing to write this letter of request, but am I wrong in thinking it should have been decided today at this meeting? Anyway, any input from anyone will be greatly appreciated! , if you can chime in, I would be eternally grateful! I hope to send out this letter no later than the first of next week, so I will look forward to any replies! Oh yeah, the district said we could attend training that they are providing to the teachers, and we asked for the training for us to be done in the home environment.......is that unreasonable??
