I am a 62 year old Hostonian, I am semi retired, married with great bunches of grandchildren. I recall when I was a child how during the summer months I would visit Granma and grampa, there I would spend my summer gathering hay into barns, That was not all, I fed chickens, played with the animals and did a lot of milking.

Grandad had a jersy named snooks she was a good milker, and we made from the milk butter, sour cream, buttermilk and clabber before it was called yogurt. That is what milk made it to the house,, there is no better taste than milk warm from milking.

Now that I am nearing the time when I lay down my Real Estate license, the wife and I are looking for a little place of our own, where I can gather hay into barns, feed the chickens, and play with the animals and maybe find another snooks that I can milk. This time we will start making our cheese. I have much more to tell you, but I do not wish to bore you anyfurther,,, best wishes to all..... maurice

Hi Maurice,

Welcome! Did you mean Houstonian? My husband and I are originally

from there! I am from Conroe, and he is from Jersey Village area.

Where are you? If you find another Snooks and get her into good milk,

when we travel down to visit family, perhaps we will visit you too! I

love the name Snooks BTW.

thank you so much for your kind responce, yes the word is

Houstonian, guess I wanted to write pretty and it came out badly.

I live just south of Humble Texas , about 6 miles... Love the

farm, animal life , always have. My wife ( Simona) is from , Mexico

and I have a home there and visit, Oh'around three times a

year. Because I go so much I have spent time with the people and have

gone to many fiestas. The fiestas are normally held for just about

anything, quincienieras , (fifteen year old parties) to weddings..

one thing I have noticed is that the people in the ranches fall into

many age groups., and they all comingle. there is no separation among

ages as we do many times here in the states.

to make a long story short. (there will be future episodes).

the group that stands out to me is the elderly, I am talking 95 to

105 years... this group runs from 5 to 10% of the group. I am talking

consistent ages of over one hundred years. Why? I do not know, but I

will lay money that these ages are reached by a life of activity and

good farm and ranch food.

> This is the major reason why I wanted to be around a club group

such as this one,, because I am convinced that the more we find and

utilize pure foods and drinks the healthier we will become....maurice
