My son is in a full-time home program and are having a problem with

one of our programs. I'm hoping for any suggestions for correction.

Basically, the therapists were running discrimination trials for 2

features - shape & color. ONe of our therapists ran the procedure

wrong, and we've been having a very difficult time correcting it.

She apparently would place 4 items (various wooden shapes of 2

different colors) as the Sd and say " point to blue triangle " . My

son would then touch each shape in succession while carefully

watching her reaction. She would lean over the field of 4 (please,

I know, I wanted to strangle her!), and inadvertently cue him as to

the correct response and then reinforce him profusely. So now

whenever you run the trial, he touches each shape - scrolls through

each and then hands you the correct shape.

The consultant told our therapists to just put his hands down and

use a full-physical prompt. We've been doing this for 3 weeks, and

he still scrolls through the responses. We tried using different

Sd's for the same class of drill - and he does these perfectly

well. HOwever, if you lay out the shapes/colors Sd, he invariably

will " scroll " down the line until he finds the correct answer.

We need to fix this and are stumped. My consultant is coming over

tonight and I want to be able to suggest something to " counter " her

suggestion. She's not come up with anything besides holding his

hands down, which from the looks of it - doesn't seem to be working

at all.

Thanks for any rec's,

T.
