Guest guest
If you send them overnight, they will be fine. And you don't need to chill them. If you ship them longer than that, you need to dehydrate them. And I don't worry about customs laws. If you want to subject yourself to them, fine. But I wouldn't. Also FYI, usually all kefir grains are created equal. All kefir cultures are not. The kefir powdered culture is not very good quality. It runs out of juice after 5 or 6 uses. It's a cheap, lab-created imitation of the real grains anyway. Therese wrote: I'm new to all of this also so these may be ignorant questions... Don't you need to keep the kefir grains chilled? If you have someone send them to you via another city, or country wouldn't you need them to stay cool? And are there any customs laws to having them shipped from another country? Guest guest
-- I beg to differ....lol. I don't know what you're doing to get yours to grow like you do, but I personally want your healthy stuff. I wouldn't have believed there was any difference either but the grains from GEM Cultures are not as lively as yours no matter what I do. I remember you got yours dehydrated from Dom, and we all on the Chapters List questioned whether they would rehydrate at all. Well, Dom's have out-performed in a spectacular way. I speculate it is what he kept his in vs what Betty keeps hers in. She may not be using Raw Milk; I really don't know for sure. I do know that Dom does. Mine, the poor things, languished until I got them into some real milk, but maybe they're just too weak to recover quickly. It makes good kefir, but.... After 3 years, you'd think something dramatic would be happening in that jar to make some serious progeny...... Food for thought....... --Terry Re: question Re: Kefir grains free for postage If you send them overnight, they will be fine. And you don't need to chill them. Guest guest
Yes, I didn't realize there were other grains that didn't perform well. Makes sense. I guess I just assumed all grains did well, but now that I think about it I guess you sure could weaken them. Never happened to me so i didn't have a frame of reference. How myopic of me! Anyway, yes, mine have lots of love children every time I put them in the raw cow's milk. They are happy. I can't wait to build up my supply again so I can send you a lot! :-) Terry L. wrote: -- I beg to differ....lol. Guest guest
Hi , I was wondering if I could get a starter from you when you replenish your supply of lovely kefir grains. It sounds like you have the best stuff around and I have found some milk that isn't raw, but it is unhomoginized, organic and pastuized instead of ultra pasturized. Making kefir seems like my only option right now to restore this pasturized milk because I haven't found a source yet here in Albuquerque, NM. I would like to make kefer anyway when I find some real milk. Just as a side question, does kefir work as well in goat milk? Thank you, Layla Wall > >Reply-To: RawDairy >To: RawDairy >Subject: Re: question Re: Kefir grains free for postage >Date: Sat, 13 Mar 2004 08:14:57 -0600 > >Yes, I didn't realize there were other grains that didn't perform well. >Makes sense.
