Guest guest
I forgot to add these notes to my previous post on the Verbal Behavior workshop in Plano last week: During the workshop, a recently published research article was also mentioned: " A comparison of intensive behavior analytic and eclectic treatments for young children with autism " . Published in: Research in Developmental Disabilities, 26, 359-383 (2005). We will soon have the PDF file linked on our website at www.ntaec.org <http://www.ntaec.org/> . The next time this VB Classroom workshop is scheduled in Texas is August 3-5 at the Central Texas Autism Center in Austin. For more information, visit www.ctac1.com <http://www.ctac1.com/> . In addition, POAC of New Jersey's newsletter this month is about Verbal Behavior in the Classroom and is available at: http://www.poac.net/Newsletter/newsletter3draft1.pdf Thanks, Kim . Guest guest
Hello Aggi,I'm not a mite expert by any means, I just dig about hoping to come up with more ideas. The first mite you mentioned, Phytoseiulus persimilis, is not, as far as I can gather, a predator of blood sucking mites, rather it is mainly a predator of Tetranychus spp which includes mites such as the red spier mite which is a pest of plants. http://www.nhm.ac.uk/nature-online/species-of-the-day/scientific-advances/bio-control/phytoseiulus-persimilis/index.html But, more excitingly, the site your friend sent you is selling a mite which it describes as being of the Laelapidae family, which, looking at the paper I have attached, sounds promising. Can you find, on the Dutchy site, the exact Latin name of the mite they are selling? Alternatively, would you email them & ask the Latin name? (My German is not great & my Dutch is even worse). Thanks for asking about my mother, it is kind of you. She has good days & bad days. Some things seem to be helping but I think she feels isloated & she gets very depressed. Since I read her your email when you sent her hugs, she often asks after you & asks what you have been trying & what has been working for you. Guest guest
Hello Krys, I so much feel for your mum! Please send her a bunch of hugs from me. I so do know about isolation and depression. I isolated myself for the simple fact that i wanted to go back to my friends and families places once I had rid myself of the problem, without getting re-infested. And of course I always feared that i could infest them. That just never happened. These mites seem to be wanting me only. This is a fact I just can't get my head around since i never heard of a mite that is 100% host-specific. Is there certain things you could exclude for your mum already, or, have you got a better understanding meanwhile what is bothering her. What are her symptoms precisely ? Just tell her not to lose hope. I had been totally hopeless for about 12 months, every morning, after having had about 2 hours of restless sleep, I woke up thinking " shit, I did wake up again " , i just wanted to be dead at the time. It has been the most horrific part of my entire life. Plus, i could not talk to anyone about it. Even my boyfriend did not understand what i was going through as he was peacefully sleeping right beside me, while i kept tossing and turning all night, one bite per second, the whole body aching, impossible to sleep or even rest, lost about 8 kilos in the first year. Then we went on holidays to the canaries and for the very first time i was able to sleep and relax a bit from this nightmare. Going back home being horrified it would all start up again, i found out, that things had become better, still struggling every night for sleep, but with herbal tea and a light sleeping pill i was able to manage more and more hours each night. Plus, i learnt every day from the nice people on this forum who have defenitely saved my life!! What has also saved my life in the beginning was sulfur8 from the afro collection. A hair conditioner i just put on head to toe to find some relief from the mites. Later on I detected a tic repellent that kept the mites away to some extend. Then I started taking the MSM sulfur capsules and that has been like a breakthrough for me. I combined it with DE which made it even better. For the past 5 - 6 months my life has been sort of normal again. Yes, there is good and bad days (sunny dry days are my best friends:-),, it is still not easy to cope, but one learns how to handle and tolerate, will never accept though !! If someone had told me that I am going to be infested by a bird mite one fine day, I would have simply called him nuts ! Sad enough, it did happen. I was not even aware of the danger living in bird's nests.... wow, did i write all this ? Sorry for the long post, i just wanted your mum to know that there is hope of getting better. Just keep trying different things and clean your house as much as you can. It has worked for me w/o using any harsh chemicals. I even got them out of my scalp applying white vinegar within 8 days only ! I am going to find out the latin name of the " dutchy's " and get back to you with it. Guest guest
Hello Aggi,You are very kind.I don't really know what to make of what is bothering my mother. Many people here seem to have similar symptoms. I don't think they can be " 100% host specific " I think they attracted only to certain people. My step-father has been bitten occasionally, but because, like your boyfriend is not really affected, he tends to dismiss it, though he tries to be kind. My mother is one of those people who seems to be allergic to everything; unfortunately, when she tried the sulphur she found she has an allergic reaction. She has tried it more than once but with the same effect :~(It is difficult for me to properly know my mother's symptoms as I am not there to see but can only see photograps from an inadequate digital microscope. She gets the bites, crawling, seeming like their going in her eyes, nose & " other internal places " , she gets some tiny black specks, some strange very small brown light brown things which are always the same shape under the microscope & some things which she thinks are clusters of eggs, these she says are pale & soft at first but dry the same light brown as the other brown things. There seems to be some white (?) debris, small black fibrous things which look like poppy seeds, something brown & gooey, & some white dust (I think she said). Those are all the things she has mentioned at various times. I find it difficult to tie it all together in my head, most especially as I am not there to see it for myself, perhaps it is fom the variety of things living off each other? She seems to have had the most luck with the Lysol & I think the borax, neem , lavender & constant, constant cleaning is helping, though not really getting on top of it. I told her you were having success with the white distilled vinegar. She said she tried malt vinegar & will get white vinegar as soon as she can (it isn't as frequent as malt vinegar in UK). I hope you hear back about the predatory mites, they do sound interesting.Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way to just get rid of the mites once & for all?All the bestKrys On 30 May 2011 19:33, Aggi <aggi_assmann@...> wrote: Hello Krys, I so much feel for your mum! Guest guest
Hi again Krys, The symptoms of your mum pretty much sound like mine, so i'd assume it's a blood sucking mite. The only thing i do not have are those fibers nor the brown things you described. Did your mum try the sulfur external or internally? For me the whole situation changed when I started with the MSM capsules 4000 mg daily. How did it all start for her. Has she been to a certain place or did she pet animals or has there been a bird's nest around her house? Today I've been surfing on the net a bit, coming across several bird breeder forums and many of them have had success with the predator mites. It is going to be quite messy as one has to bring out 1 to 3 little bunches of mites per square meter, they have to be placed on little mats that need to be kept humid so they do not dry out, and then to be covered with some sort of a lid. Plus, I need to leave them little bunches for about 2 weeks, before seeing any results. The best thing is that they can be placed on carpets as well, so that might be the answer for the car and office. It says that those predator mites start chasing the bloodsuckers straight away and won't rest until they're all killed and eaten... Good :-) After that they either kill each other or die, but never bother birds, chicken or humans. That sounds very tempting to me. And yes, it would be like a dream to get rid of the bird mites once and for all... I do hate mites with a passion :-) P.S.: For cleaning i kept using Chlorox bleach in kitchen and bathroom that has seemed to help big time. Windex with ammonia is perfect for kitchen surfaces. Guest guest
Hi Aggi,I really wish my mother could take the sulphur; that is one of the most common components of regimes which work for people. She has tried the sulphur twice, externally, with the same reaction. I'd be worried that she might have an even worse, possibly dangerous, adverse reaction if she were to try taking sulphur internally. Sulphur itself is one of the earlier pesticide/fungicides & is part of the chemical compound sulphonamide. As you probably know, Sulphonamides were the first antibiotics on the market & have a very broad use, antimicrobial, fungicidal, pesticidal, & is one of the only antibiotics which will kill some protozoa (such as coccidia & toxoplama). Unfortunately many people are allegic to these drugs. The reason I was askng the exact latin name of the predatory mites, is that one of the predatory mites (Androlaelaps casalis), in the paper I attached, was implicated in causing dermatitis in humans. I can only find this abstract. http://www.mendeley.com/research/dermatitis-humans-associated-mites-pyemotes-tritici-dermanyssus-gallinae-ornithonyssus-bacoti-androlaelaps-casalis-israel/ The writers of the paper I sent, about predatory mites, were aware of the Israeli paper; they tested whether this mite sucked the blood of birds, & were of the opinion this mite did not suck blood & did not have a mouthpart that was capable of sucking blood. However, the fact that it has been sited as biting humans, & the lack of other information, might make one wary of introducing them to an area where there is someone attrctive to mites. That said, I wish I could read the Israeli paper in full. I wonder whether it is possible that Androlaelaps casalis which might have actually been present feeding upon a blood sucking mite which itself was biting the human??? I am hopeful that the white vinegar will be helpful when she can get some. What really is needed is some way of killing the little b**********s completely, rather than keeping them at bay. For this the predatory mites do look the most promising. Guest guest
Hello Krys, It is such a shame she does not agree with the sulfur, I am convinced that her situation would improve a lot, but like you said, it seems to be to risky trying. I just hope the vinegar helps her as it has helped me. I am not even using it anymore, mites had vanished after 8 dayys twice a day treatment !! Many thanks for the interesting information on the predator mites! I will ring up the distributor in Holland and ask for the Latin name as you have made me really curious now. Today I have sprayed a whole bottle of 400 ml Sagrotan in the car since it has worked so well on the couches recently. The situation improves by the day. It is more me controlling the mites now, rather than the mites controlling me. They have also lost their 'biting power' and I am finding less and less eggs on me. The weather is still dry and sunny and I am just enjoying my holidays big time. Live is good again !! Guest guest
So glad to read your post, Aggi! It´s such positive news!DId you spray the white vinegar all over your body. I got it that you used it on your scalp and then put conditioner over it and then rinsed? I have bought the white vinegar now. Haven´t got more bites since last friday/saturday so I still hope it was a one timer...CeciliaFrom: Aggi <aggi_assmann@...>bird mites Sent: Thu, June 2, 2011 1:40:06 AMSubject: Re: Addition to my previous post Hello Krys, It is such a shame she does not agree with the sulfur, I am convinced that her situation would improve a lot, but like you said, it seems to be to risky trying. Guest guest
Hello Cecilia, so happy that you seem to be fine !! Regarding the vinegar I used to spray it all over my body before bedtime and just let it dry. Then I poured quite a big amount over my scalp and blew dry. In the morning I just took a normal shower with sulfur soap. Afterwards I only poured a little bit of vinegar on the scalp, massaged it in all over and for covering the smell I used a nice smelling leave-in conditioner, that would cover the vinegar smell instantly. After 8 days I was mite free ! You can not imagine how happy I am about it. Thought I would never get rid of them on my scalp, it was just terrible. My life is getting closer to normal every day now. Going to bed without being covered in repellent, menthol cream and sulfur. Just continue taking the MSM capsules plus the DE daily. Going to start up an anti-fungal diet advised, cos I do believe the fungus had the mites attracted to me. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The company selling the mites is called REFONA, but they do not > > > have an > > > > > > > English site. Guest guest
Thanks for the links. My mother eats a lot of garlic in salads. It was Flowers of Sulphur she was using mixed with a cream (Sudocrem) containing Zinc Oxide & other things. I think you're right, it may not actually be sulphur, in of itself she is allergic to, but maybe in combination with something else; maybe it was reacting with one of the other ingredients in the cream. She could be fine with the MSM, but her allergies make her miserable so she might be worried to try it. Maybe I should try to persuade her to give it a go??? All the bestKrysOn 2 June 2011 08:46, healinghope <mfrreman@...> wrote: Kyrs Perhaps your mother should try MSM. Which sulfur is she allergic to? Weather and rain have undone it again, And now you would never know There was once a road through the woods Before they planted the trees. It is underneath the coppice and heath, And the thin anemones. Only the keeper sees That, where the ring-dove broods, And the badgers roll at ease, There was once a road through the woods. Yet, if you enter the woods Of a summer evening late, When the night-air cools on the trout-ringed pools Where the otter whistles his mate. (They fear not men in the woods, Because they see so few) You will hear the beat of a horse's feet, And the swish of a skirt in the dew, Steadily cantering through The misty solitudes, As though they perfectly knew The old lost road through the woods…. But there is no road through the woods. The Way Through the Woods - Rudyard Kipling

Guest guest
Perhaps use the zinc oxide and flower of sulfur separate, then see if there is still a reaction. Remember the first time I used yellow sulfur and bag balm mixed I turned red and swelled some. This was die off now I can use a stronger mixture and have no reaction. http://morgellonsaid.wordpress.com/topical-treatments-2/sulfur-zinc-products/ > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The company selling the mites is called REFONA, but they do not > > > > > have an > > > > > > > > > English site. Guest guest
Thanks for telling of your experiences with the MSM. The MSM sounds good & I have suggesed she gives it a go. I imagine she'll be able to get it at a whole food shop? All the bestKrys On 5 June 2011 11:19, southernbugmom <zenmorgie@...> wrote: Hey Krys. I am not recommending she try MSM but I wanted you to know my experience in the event she wanted to chat with someone who has a similar issue. I did not try it topically - just the MSM pills. Rudyard Kipling > -- They shut the road through the woods Seventy years ago.
