Guest guest
, I have worked with a couple of these people. You prescribe your IDEAL diet for (assuming he could eat it). Then he wife makes it and puts in a blender and delivers via the G-tube. You may have to dilute in a liquid -but it worked quite well. Same nutrition but no satisfaction of taste. Be sure he "smells " the food cooking to stimulate the HCL/ pancreatic enzymes. Dick Thom Beaverton, OR cancer, endocrine, Business of Health Hi group A patient of mine has had a reoccurence of tongue/throat cancer that was in remission for 12 years. His symptoms were chronic sore throat (tearing like pain). Because of his history I told him I was concerned about cancer re-occurence and that he needed to go back to his MD and get scoped. He wasnt too willing to do this and unfortunately his MD didnt seem too concerned and only looked in his throat in the office. After 7 months of inadequate testing and false negative petscan and trial of antifungals and antibiotics he was finally correctly diagnosed after an MRI. (mostly due to insistence of the wife) I at this time treated him in the beginning with demulcents and draingage and felt somewhat ok with it becuase the PET scan was clear. I have learned alot from this, particularly to listen to your gut and make sure proper follow up is occuring. My question now is if anyone knows any recipes or formulas that can be given through a g-tube. He recently had 4 major surgeries and is underwieght. His wife was able to "fatten' him up with a high protein drink mostly corn syrup, oils etc. It only worked temporarily while on this food. I have some ideas but would like to know if anyone has recommendations appropriate for a g-tube. His wife is very proactive and is willing to make any food preperations necessary.
