RSV, fever, hydration

Hi All-

Say you're trying to keep a 2.5 mo. old with RSV hydrated but he barely drinks and you're keeping his fever down by putting him in a tepid bath. Is there a formula of minerals to put in with baby's water to help keep him hydrated?...he's vomiting and little (12 lbs).

I have not seen the patient yet. I know RSV in baby can often be long and arduous and involve trips to the hospital for IV rehydration. I know with proper support and homeopathic treatment the duration of the illness can be shorter, and I've never managed RSV in a baby this small, but they were sent home by their medical doctor being told there is no treatment, make sure he sleeps upright, give him tylenol for his fever, it will likely last two weeks and include hospitalization.

So, let me know what you think.

I have not had personal experience with this kind of

case either. I do know babies that small and young can

change from OK to not OK very quickly. I would have

the MD give the parents VERY CLEAR instructions of

what to look for. I would think irritability and

listlessness would be definite signs to go back to the

hospital.

Rehydration has been done with electrolyte enemas.I do

not have a formula and have never done it, but

remember hearing about it in school.
