Guest guest
Hi , I just about cried when I read your response. This is so hard! I am following no=gluten and my tummy is better (news I'd rather not know, but owell....), even though the biopsy was " normal. " just like you said!! I've decided most doctors are idiots. Well, we're spending gas money on gluten stuff, it' so expensive. I did find Rice Milk and Rice Chex and Rice Krispies (I was afraid to read their boxes), but we read most every ingredient in everything else. I am following the Phase One diet for yeast. Not eating carbs is the hardest part!! ( pasta, rolls) but rice is allowed occasionally. One of my docs thinks I'm full of environmental toxins and wants me to see Dr. Willliam Rea in Dallas, but I called and they don't take insurance, so forget it. My poor husband, he is being so patient and doing too much himself. I am getting a saliva test for hormones and I am so excited, I think I have low cortisol. Still having yeast bloom all over my arms etc. but bearing it okay so far... will take Nystatin for six months and ketoonazole for a couple months (getting liver tests, all ok). B-12 has helped so much. I just wanted to thank you. Good luck and prayers for you and your boys and your household. Vicki in North Texas (FMS/CFS, Myofascial, Hypo/t, fungus, you name it! HA.) Guest guest
I can honestly say I didn't cheat on the phase one of the yeast diet for 40 days. I decided even Jesus only fasted 40 days, LOL. But, after feeling the effects of my indulgence, oh my! it was easier to stay on the diet. I will be posting diet ideas on my blog. I did get creative, as much as you can with 2 food groups, hehe. http://mythyroidjourney.blogspot.com/ ~kate > > Hi , > > I just about cried when I read your response. This is so hard! Vicki -- Could you explain? What does it look like? I'm pretty sure that I have yeast spots, but never thought the "white spots" I have could be that. Thank you. Guest guest
Hi Vicki, You sound just like me! The no gluten can be difficult - as far as budget and convenience Amazon.com has lots of GF foods. Since you have to buy in bulk I buy only family favorites from there and always try something new by buying singles at the health food store or Sprouts/Whole foods, but the prices are great and if you setup the auto-reorder, you can save an extra 15%. It takes about 6 mos. to really get a good rotation of foods in your diet and to get the family to a point where everyone isn't feeling deprived. I may have mentioned, but we found Rice Dream Egg Nog at Whole Foods before Christmas - my sons had not had egg nog for 5 years since going GF/CF and soy free. My older son loved it so much I just went back and bought all they had on their shelves. We also like the Almond milk and Sprouts carries the Blue Diamond brand that is unsweetened. Rice Chex AFAIK are GF, but Rice Krispies AFAIK are not because they still contain barley malt. There are several GF rice krispie alternatives - most available on Amazon.com, BUT they come in 6 packs, so I only buy those when I know I'll make the kids Rice Krispie treats for a school event or special treats. If you're not on my GF Yahoo group, please do join - we are adding recipes and I have a nurse friend in the group - she's also hypo, environmental sensitivities, GF/CF (whole family) and she has been a fantastic resource for me. She also almost died from yeast overgrowth - it was impacting her heart and she was in the hospital for a while a few years ago. Not to worry too much, as she did acquire the infection while working in a hospital. I do primarily stick to an anti-yeast diet and do so much better when I do - I had just a couple GF/CF cookies over Christmas and I was zombie lady the next day. Sugar just sets off such a negative chain of reactions in my body - as well as feeding the fungi, it will feed lots of bad bacteria and significantly contributes to GI flora imbalances. I do have one rice cake a day, but I do allow myself some dried fruit - our bodies do need some amount of carbs and veggies and meats alone don't provide enough. Dr. Rea can be very good if you've had significant exposure to a single toxin - he does primarily blood tests and many of the toxins do not show up in the blood, although I'm hoping he may be starting to use some of the newer DNA tests and urine tests from Europe. Unfortunately, I've not met too many of his patients that aren't either living in bubbles, with aluminum on their steering wheels to cut back on EMF exposure or having to return regularly for his (very expensive) treatments. Fortunately, he is now aware of Dr. Fine's research on gluten sensitivity. I know Dr. Rea has also successfully treated some thyroid patients and many of his injections can be helpful for minimizing impacts of some of the environmental toxins, but again, I've not seen significant healing for many. If you know that mold toxins or lots of infections (even fungal) are one of the biggest sources of toxins, then Shoemaker's protocol might help you significantly. It's quite simple and there are DFW area docs that will Rx the CSM. I also plan on starting a yahoo group for the toxins, so that we can discuss these issues in more depth there. I'm going to ask the various docs if I can have them listed as potential resources and include details of their protocols Shoemaker's is already widely available on the Internet and his own website, so pointing to these things may be the best approach). I have uploaded a very comprehensive ppt presentation on Toxins under the " Files " to the left on the Yahoo group webpage - under the " Related Diseases.. " section -- under " toxins " . There are references in there to the medical/scientific research, as well as some known effective treatments - with of course, the disclaimer that this is informational only and I do always recommend that these methods are agreed with your healthcare provider. Some of the methods will not work for some folks due to defects in detox pathways - for example, Alpha Lipoic Acid and Glutathione do not work for me. There is also a whole page at the back with lots of other references. If others on this thread get through this whole thing, it is actually not unreasonable for one to take 3-5 years to achieve a reasonable level of wellness. It takes 5 years before all the cells in the body are " replaced " . Thus, it takes time for the body to get back to a self-healing state and for most of us this requires constant vigilence lest any of these problems for which we are genetically predisposed introduce an imbalance (again) - this is honestly one of the most important things I have learned (and accepted) with the start of the infection (Lyme) that sent me to the bottom of the pit 5 years ago. And, based on my experiences, the detoxing, balancing hormones with bioidentical replacement hormones and treating the various infections (along with all the bread and butter lifestyle choices) all must be addressed for optimal wellness. Also, since most of us have these genes, new things are also far more likely to impact us. But, I am proof that one can recover and heal. I got Lyme again this past June and did fantastic with the 6 weeks on abx - a sign that the power of my immune system was able to put the Lyme into remission, so to speak. For many of these infectious entities remain in our bodies forever and stress is our worst enemy since it impacts our adrenals, as well as triggering the innate immune response that causes the cascade of other hormonal issues. Also, thanks for your support for my family and I wish you and yours (and the rest of the group, of course success and many blessings in the pursuit of wellness.
