Guest guest
Hey, Ellen ... I hope you contacted that supplier with this information. One would think an individually sealed bag of lotion should be fine, but this proves that thinking doesn't keep that stuff from growing. -
Guest guest
A while back I was looking for a good lotion base. I won't tell you where the samples came from, cause that's not the point. But, let me tell you what happened. LOL I had the samples for about a month and was sitting here at the computer thinking about purchasing the stuff and decided to open one of them and give them a try. I put some lotion on my hands and was rubbing it in when it hit me.. OMG. My husband was in the room and looked at me and asked " Did you fart? " LOL.. This stuff smelled worse than anything remotely like that. The nasties that can grow in lotion are invisible to the naked eye, but the smell is anything but invisible. *puke* There are very few times in my life that I have smelled this smell.. but I can tell you.. it smelled dead. Pewweee & Gag!!!! I " ran " to the sink and had to wash three or four times to get the putrid smell off me.. it was horrific. Not only can the nasties hurt someone, they can really be a major turn off. Big Time! I would not want my customers getting anything like that stuff...ever! I just don't even want to imagine it. I'm just glad that I was too busy to jump right in and purchase this stuff. It was a blessing in disguise in more ways than one. Just thought I'd share <grin> Ellen Ellen's Essentials, Houston, Texas- fep@... -Ask me about the TSA !!! We have said many times on this list that your product does NOT need to smell or grow things for it to be off. By the time one of those things happen it is ready to grow legs and take off down the road:-) If you are going to buy a base, make sure you get a full ingredient list and get a copy of the challenge test for the batch you are buying. Don't forget that if someone gets injured you will be fighting a lawsuit. Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
The lotion in question came from a reputable MANUFACTURER, and had an ingredients listing, etc. A product does not ***HAVE*** to be to the point of growing legs to smell putrid. This product was in a bottle and it " appeared " to be good. The point is, even if the lotion is from a reputable place.. things can happen. Apparently, somewhere along the way their preservative system broke down. But, I'm just an old idiot with an experience to share.. what do I know?.. LOL Regards, Ellen Re: Bad Lotion Experience *GAG* > We have said many times on this list that your product does NOT need to > smell or grow things for it to be off. Guest guest
A product does not ***HAVE*** to be to the point > of growing legs to smell putrid. By the time it gets to that stage it probably is. This product was in a bottle and it > " appeared " to be good. A product does not need to look bad or smell bad, to be bad. This is the reason for challenge testing. If it fails the challenge test there is something wrong with the preservative system. > But, I'm just an old idiot with an experience to share.. what do I know?.. > LOL We all excel at some things. The fact that we seek knowledge about the things we are interested in, but don't yet have enough knowledge about suggests wisdom rather than the opposite. Pat. Guest guest
The point is: You should probably test challenge things even if they came from a reputable manufacture or distributor. Maybe the lotion was contaminated with microorganisms when it was delivered. A simple APC would tell you that. Maurice -------------------------------------------------------- Maurice O.
