Guest guest
Do you want to work with an adorable, lovable boy??? We've got one and we are desperately searching for the RIGHT person with ABA experience OR the potential to be trained by a qualified therapist, to shadow our high- functioning 3.5 year old PDD-NOS son at a main-stream school Mon-Fri mornings 8:30-12:00 started in September. We live in New Jersey in Howell near Marlboro. Not too far from certain areas in Pa. It's a great school in Marlboro off Rt.79. Please contact me if you are interested and we can figure out if you are close enough to drive back and forth if you are in Pa or Northern N.J. We would begin some hours in August at our home in Howell. The person must be confident enough in their ability to work without a team that already has a qualified consultant/coordinator in place. We are looking for a fun,up-beat, motivated person who wants to work with a fun, motivated child and family. Please call or email us. (212 679 5067) wittstein@... wittstein@... Guest guest
Confidence should really be replaced by competence. It is concerning that there are individuals that would work with children without the proper guidance of a consultant. According to the professional guidelines from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (www.bacb.com), it is not appropriate for people who have their BA/BS and have taken the certification exam (Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst, BCABA) to work independent of a fully certified behavior analyst (Board Certified Behavior Analyst, BCBA - Masters Degree Level). Most individuals who are providing " shadowing " or other individual therapy do not even have the lower certification and would also not be appropriate to work without the guidance of a consultant. I know that the BACB guidelines are for the " perfect " world and not always attainable. However, I believe that it is important for everyone to know what it takes to be considered competent. I welcome additional discussion of staffing issues and credentials. Warmly, e <http://www.autismbehaviorconsult.com/> Everyone Can <http://www.autismbehaviorconsut.com/> Learn e Quinby, M.Ed. Guest guest
In regards to your critique of my posting, I did not require someone with a BA/BS who had taken the certification exam. I requested someone 'with ABA experience OR the potential to be trained by a qualified therapist'. (Read my ad) You are 'concerned' that there are therapists who lack confidence, welcome to the world...be concerned, there are therapists who lack confidence. I have experienced it first hand in the last two years as a mother of a special needs child. I am not opposed to adding the word 'competent' but e, feeling the need to police a mother's choice of words in a public posting is offensive. If you truly feel it's important for everyone to know what it takes to be considered competent and you have that knowledge there are more appropriate ways to preach it. I came to this site looking for someone to help my son, let's stay focused. --- In , " e Quinby " <kristine@a...> wrote: > Confidence should really be replaced by competence. Guest guest
I'm sorry that you took offense to my post. It certainly was not meant in that way. What I was trying to say is that the therapists who will only work with a consultant are not lacking in confidence, but instead are working within the ethical boundaries of the industry. They should be commended for their ethical practices. I mentioned the BACB guidelines because many parents don't know what the professional standards are for people working with their children. Indeed, most professionals do not know either. Unfortunately, there are too many practitioners who take advantage of parents by offering less than acceptable services. It robs you of your money and your child of precious time. Sincerely, e <http://www.autismbehaviorconsult.com/> Everyone Can <http://www.autismbehaviorconsut.com/> Learn e Quinby, M.Ed.
